How Nifty it’s 50!

An 11 mile run at marathon pace was on the docket for today. The days of double-digit midweek runs are here already. Time waits for no one. I don’t know how I would have gotten this one in if Thing 2 hadn’t started a new gym class after preschool today, buying me an extra 45 minutes. I guess I would have slaved over a hot dreadmill in the wee, pre-dawn hours. Thank heavens for small favors.
The flu bug that accosted the majority of our household seems to be at bay, or so I want to believe anyway. Thing 2 and hubby are both feeling much better and continuing their courses of antibiotics. Thing 1 is finally fever-free and back at school today as well.
So after dropping Thing 2 at preschool I got down to the business of running. My cell phone was in my fuel belt with the zipper cracked so I’d be sure to hear it if I should get a call from either school.
It was almost 50 when I started–50! Could the long days of lung crackling air and cryogenic snot be behind me for another year?? Dare I dream?
It was certainly windy–for most of the run I was either virtually airborne or running in place depending on the direction I was heading. But who am I to complain? It felt so good to be jacket/hat/glove-free for a change.
I GU’d in mile 6, banana was the flavor du jour. Probably the closest I’ll come to banana cream pie for some time as I’m still making an attempt, however feeble, to drop some weight before my upcoming races. Sadly I was up a pound the last time I dared to check. Damn Whoopie Pies. I suppose the Girl Scout cookies aren’t helping my cause either.
Overall a decent run. Goal pace: 9:09. Stretch goal: 8:46. Actual pace: 8:54.
