Training Recap

September 6, 2010

Week 11 of marathon training is complete: 54 miles.  Monday: Yoga at the uber gym. I’ve been a member all summer and it’s taken me this long to get up the nerve to venture into the yoga studio. Tuesday: 7 miles total. Speedwork: 1000m, 2000m, 1000m, 1000m. Ouch. Corework Wednesday: Yoga, lower body weights, corework [Read More]

Finally a Glimmer

September 5, 2010

We interrupt this blog from it’s regularly scheduled whining from a slumping, overtired runner to bring you this important message: I ran 21 miles yesterday. It was gusty and 52 divine degrees. I experienced the elusive runners high and found myself going way too fast on several occasions. I threw in some hill repeats from [Read More]

Running Fashion Challenge

September 3, 2010

The Fashion Master Cleanse is all the rage lately. It’s where you limit yourself to just 6 clothing items and wear only those (in whatever combinations you please) for 31 days. Checkout the details here. Fair enough. Lets modify that concept a bit for running purposes. The Challenge: Share the running attire you’d choose if [Read More]

How to Calm Piriformis Syndrome in Runners

August 29, 2010

With many of us in the nitty-gritty, high mileage weeks of our fall race training cycles, it is common to have a complaining body part or two…or six. For me those parts are my left hamstring and piriformis, or as I like to call it, buttular region. These particular afflictions are not new to me, [Read More]

Today is a Gift

August 25, 2010

Don’t look back on happiness, or dream of it in the future. You are only sure of today; do not let yourself be cheated out of it.–Henry Ward Beecher This past weekend was the Madison Half Marathon. I ran the inaugural last year and was poised for a PR (or so I thought). Turns out [Read More]

The End of an Era

August 23, 2010

Thing 2 started Kindergarten today. Cannot believe how quickly this day came. Where is the baby I bounced around the house with? Took to mom and tot gym? Who helped me choose veggies at the farmer’s market? Who gave her sister a real run for the money for the title of best back seat driver? [Read More]

Colorado Part II

August 18, 2010

After the race we headed to Morrison to meet my friend Geri for some Mexican food and margaritas. Geri, Jill and I all ran Boston in 2009. Amazing how the stomach that protested all night and through 6 miles of the race could now handle a spinach enchilada and Margarita with ease. Hmmmm… It was [Read More]

Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half Marathon Race Report

August 16, 2010

It was beyond wonderful to escape the heat and humidity and head for Colorado last week to run the Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half Marathon. The perfect antidote for this slumping, overheated runner. After extensive research on portable oxygen tanks, I settled on this number…but reconsidered when I thought of the hassle I’d have getting [Read More]

How to Overcome a Running Slump

August 11, 2010

As you may know, I am in the midst of the great running slump of 2010. A funk. Blame it on the heat, humidity, vacations, family obligations, illness, stress, injury, there’s a laundry list of possibilities. Many of you are right there with me, cursing the heat and slogging through the miles. After sitting here [Read More]

RocknRoll Chicago Half Marathon

August 2, 2010

The day started early. I was up at 3:30 to begin the trek to the city for the RocknRoll Chicago Half Marathon. Major score of the day: Found a lot with ALL DAY PARKING for are–you sitting down?– $6!! I’d expected to pay upwards of $50 so darn I should have bought more stuff at the [Read More]

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
