Let’s Talk Fitness Fashion

November 17, 2012

Probably one of my favorite things about working out, aside from the health benefits and endorphin rush, is wearing fun, fashionable gear. Yes a workout feels that much better when you look good doing it! Me? I can never have too many half zips. The brighter the better for the safety aspect as well as [Read More]

Stuff I Love: November Edition

November 16, 2012

Shower Pill: You all know I’ve been going to hot vinyasa flow (or as I like to say ‘sweat your nuts off, or SYNO ) yoga for a couple of weeks now. I was beginning to think when I survived the 3rd class that things were looking up and SYNO was no longer impossible.  Alas [Read More]

The Scream Heard Round the World

November 15, 2012

I attended the Healthy Chicago Summit last weekend. One of the speakers was a health and fitness expert with a specialty in nutrition. Since I’m newly into my gluten- and processed food free initiative, I was eager to pick her brain about all things thyroid. I like to think I’ve got the workout end of [Read More]

Why I Run and a Winner

November 13, 2012

Here’s a cute video taken at Zooma Great Lakes that talks about the various reasons people run: We all have our own reasons. In my case, I started running because I was concerned when my cholesterol test that came back borderline.  With a genetic deck stacked against me complete with heart disease, obesity and Type [Read More]

Hard Yoga and Some Freestyle

November 12, 2012

I’m changing up my workouts now that my running ‘season’ is over. That includes 2 yoga classes, which I’m proud to say, I went to last week. Gosh the studio was packed: I had to go smack dab in front of the instructor to avoid sweaty split shorts guy and the yoga diva who windmills [Read More]

Saucony Triumph Review and a Winner

November 9, 2012

Recently I had the opportunity to try out the brand-new Saucony Triumph 10. Like rebels everywhere, I violated rule #1 of the runner’s code and cracked them out at the Zooma Great Lakes 5k. Yes I raced in a shoe I hadn’t even put my toes in before. They were surprisingly light and very [Read More]

Going Gluten Free

November 8, 2012

Yep, I’m joining camp gluten-free. I’m hoping my slacker thyroid will thank me for it. I was diagnosed hypothyroid shortly after Thing 2 was born in 2005 (before I took on distance running of any kind). Since then, I’ve been mostly happy on the medication (when I take it…because I detest taking meds). Remember last [Read More]

Marathon Brain

November 2, 2012

This is my brain. This is my brain post marathon. We all know that blood is diverted from the stomach and digestive tract and sent to working muscles during a race but how about after you’ve crossed the finished line? The days following my Marine Corps Marathon adventure have been a blur. I’ve been much [Read More]

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
