What Makes You Cranky?

Categories: Tempo Run

Blame it on snow envy (the East Coast is supposed to get way more than us), a need for an endorphin fix, not sure what but I must have gotten out on the cranky side of the bed this morning:

  1. Not one, not 2, but 3 invites/obligations came up that conflicted with races I had designs on. Hissss.
  2. It was slipperier than a Chi-town politician when I walked the kids out to the bus this morning, meaning my tempo run would be indoors.
  3. I procrastinated said tempo run something fierce.
  4. El Diablo swore at me. I swore back.
  5. The washer ate one of the padded boob things from my new Love Racer Tank, or so I thought.
  6. It’s the year of the snake. Double hisssss.

Then the day gradually improved.

  1. The tempo run rocked, slower than I’d like but still…

chili

  • I passed on my usual protein shake and had recovery touchdown chili instead.
  • It’s snowing like a mofo, just the way I like it and I don’t need to drive anywhere.
  • I found the boob pad. Thing 2 was using it as a knee cushion.
  • I still loathe snakes but when I’m all jacked up on endorphins and chili, I don’t care.

A good run changes everything!

What makes you cranky?

  1. Michelle says:

Sooo many things. Like during said snowstorm a patient “is NOT going to come early, I want to keep my original appointment time”. Um really? Guess you might not see the doctor then. gah. Like I want to sit around until 11 for his appointment during snowmagaddeon. Or that same patient will get his eye exam and then want his rx so he can get his glasses at Wal-Mart cause they are soooo much cheaper there.

Was that too much eye doctor gripes for you? lol sorry. That’s what has me cranky today. And Yes! a good run will fix it all!!

  2. Andrea says:

Being sick makes me cranky but I spent the day in bed reading, watching movies and endlessly checking Facebook and email so it’s not all bad.

  3. rachelle q says:

So funny! Lots of things make me cranky. I love that boob pad was being used as a knee cushion. That must be some boob pad:)

  4. Karen says:

Allergies are making my cranky these days. Just when I think I might have the magical treatment to cure my ails, I get pounded back to the ground again. Boo hiss.

  5. Kim says:

I can’t really focus on cranky things cause I’m busy trying to picture the boob pad as a knee pad!!!
Glad your run (and the chili) helped your day!
    And, snow makes me cranky!!!

  6. cynthia says:

I procrastinated on my tempo run yesterday – I finally got out on a local trail and as I was struggling a bit, a mtn bike girlfriend of mine rode by. She turned around and ended up bike pacing me for the last tempo mile. How awesome is that?? It definitely turned around my run. Now I need to talk her into doing that every week!! glad your day got better. :)

  7. A lot of things have made me cranky this week. I’ve been recouping at home a llll week and it’s getting old.

The part about the boob pad/knee pad cracked me up. :)

  8. Jill says:

    I love Thing 2! :)

  9. Black Knight says:

Beautiful post. Many things make me cranky but my permanent injury is the worst thing. I cannot forget how stupid I was that morning.
Year of the snake: is this a problem for us too?

  10. Natalie says:

I get super cranky when I am not able to workout.

  11. Scott says:

“•I found the boob pad. Thing 2 was using it as a knee cushion.”

I literally spit out water reading that!!! BWHAHAHA!!!

  12. misszippy1 says:

This made me laugh, especially the part about the boob pad location!

Snow makes me cranky, honestly. I think that’s b/c (as we talked about) this region goes insane with the threat of an inch. Everything gets cancelled, throwing my well-crafted schedule off, and I get cranky. Kids’ sleepovers also make me cranky, b/c my kids are in a sleep deficit and a nightmare to deal with!

  13. Tink says:

I hate when things conflict with my workout routine! I hate having to shuffle things around!

  14. Right now my left ITB is making me cranky – waits till a week before my first race of the year to flare up!

The boob cushion as knee pad cracked me up – sometimes I swear we live in the same house :)

  15. Erica A says:

I was thinking of a pet peeves post in my head this week so this is top of mind: rude people, people who feel like it is ok to leave bags on seats on public transit when you are standing, not running or working out because of work, passive aggressive behavior… oy my list is long! TGIF!

  16. christa says:

It’s snowing here too and I’m not going outside. I get cranky when I can’t run. almost 2 months of crankiness here, it’s going to end this weekend.

  17. MILF Runner says:

I get cranky when someone takes my stevia and I have to use agave nectar instead. I get cranky when doctors say stupid things. I get cranky when someone puts chia in my kombucha. And I get really, really cranky when the gravel guard under my car drags on the ground. SKRUSHHHHHHHHHHHHH all the way down the road. Ugh. Can I come over for some chili?

  18. Gaye says:

Easy one. Winter. I need me some sunshine, umbrella drinks, and flip flops. :) Bring it springtime! The sooner the better!
    Gaye

  19. Kenley says:

Loosing my boob thing would indeed make me very cranky. Actually the one thing in regards to running that will make me very very cranky is getting prepped to do a long run or whatever run, but esp long run, and then something comes up. Ahhhhhhh~!

  20. I’ve had the boob thing happen before. So annoying. I also had my washer eat a brand new pair of Swiftwick socks. Grr! Oh and snow! I’m sick of winter already.

  21. Yes!! This sounds just like my day. I couldn’t even read blogs, I was so grumpy. :) Glad the run fixed it. It was my rest day, which didn’t help matters, but I’m looking forward to my early am run!

  22. Katie says:

This is so funny. Just imagine though not being able to get your tempo run in at all?! That’s what is making me cranky right now. Pregnancy is torture for runners (at least for me)

  23. Carli says:

Knee pad, nice! Voice mails make me crabby. They’re rarely anything good in my experience. I do not like snow. Yuck!

  24. Char says:

A tissue in the wash. Drives me insane. Clean out your pockets people!

  25. Haha! A good run does change everything.

Lots of things make me cranky, but then I go do some form of swim, bike, run and I usually feel better. Right now work has been making me cranky, but I have a two week vacation in a week so then I’ll be happy.

  26. Anne says:

Haha…thing 2 rocks :) You are so right, a good run can make a day so much better!
