Tuesday Tidbits and a Winner

Food Desert: Yep, I’ve been living in a Whole Foods Desert. No store within at least a 20 minute drive. I know its an outrage. But tomorrow is the long-awaited grand opening of a brand-spanking-new store maybe 15 minutes away. I am pumped. There’s also a new Road Runner Sports opening in the same shopping center. Granted, it’s not Athleta but I’m double pumped. So for the new Whole Foods to open, the old (further away) store had to close. When we were there over the weekend, certain heavy, hard-to-move things were on mega clearance: Wine, sparking water, did I say wine? Indigo Wild bulk soap (I won’t tell you how many pounds of this I dragged home. It would’ve been more if the Caveman didn’t cramp my style. Do you shop at Whole Foods? What do you buy?

snowday

SNOW DAY! The district was pre-emptive and called off school last night ahead of our most recent ‘snow event’, which was slated to start at 3am this morning. Although the white stuff didn’t really start swirling until 6am, it’s coming down pretty hard now and is expected to continue thru midnight. What is it about a snow day that brings out the kid in me? Do you love snow days?

Vacation Tidbits

I am back from vacation! We spent 7 nights aboard the stunning Ruby Princess:

She is enormous in a magnificent way. Despite having over 3,000 passengers aboard, it never seemed crowded and we never waited in line for anything. We ate ourselves silly. But in my defense, I did partake of the fitness center on a regular basis.

Here’s the view from my treadmill. Either it was calibrated wrong, or copious amounts of pastry, gelato, pizza, etc. are the perfect fuel because I was clipping along at speeds I haven’t seen in modern times. There’s much to be said for running at sea: lots of additional muscles come into play for stabilizing purposes. I’m pretty sure the sea air burns exponentially more calories too…wait what? That’s not true??

We toured, we played, we shopped, we relaxed. We were treated like royalty by the crew. As if that weren’t enough, post-cruise we stayed at the Doral Resort and Spa, home of the Pritikin Longevity Center. The grounds and workout facility were gorgeous. Despite my initial intimidation, I enjoyed some fantastic yoga. Bonus points for not rupturing anything.

I won’t be getting on the scale anytime soon, but it was a perfect ending to a pretty fabulous year.

Happy New Year!
