Introvert’s Guide to Party Conversation

November 13, 2013

We attended two parties last weekend, have two more this weekend and it goes on from there. ‘Tis the season. Let’s just say I was not born a sparkling party conversationalist (as if I am now, haha!). I’d pretty much rather have my eyes poked out with jagged twigs than attend a party where I [Read More]

#OneSmallChange Link Up Week 6

November 12, 2013

Can you believe we’re starting week 6 already? Neither can I! Time is flying, its SNOWING here in Chicago and the holidays are racing toward us! I know its a stressful time of year, but it’s SO important to, as Carla says, put on your oxygen mask first, before you take care of everybody and [Read More]

Chevy Chase 5k Race Report

November 11, 2013

I raced the Chevy Chase 5k yesterday. It was done in a ‘chase’ format, which was completely foreign to me: We lined up based on a projected finish time submitted at registration and started ONE BY ONE, at 5 or 10 second intervals, can’t remember which and wasn’t paying attention. Weird, yes? We lined up [Read More]

Gluten-Free Foodie Friday

November 8, 2013

With Thanksgiving coming up and the Grain Brain Challenge going strong, I’ve been seeking out recipes that fit both parameters. Although I won’t officially be on the Grain Brain Challenge when Thanksgiving rolls around, I do plan to stay gluten and soy free. It sure wouldn’t hurt to serve something gluten-free and festive for Thanksgiving. [Read More]

Life After Microwave

November 7, 2013

It’s been 6 months since our microwave met an early death. To be honest it had way more features on it than I’d ever even think to use. Mostly it rewarmed leftovers and tea and quickly baked an occasional potato. It was originally purchased by the Caveman 5 years ago, on an impulse no less. [Read More]

Race Bully Update/October Wrapup

November 6, 2013

So it turns out the race bully I mentioned the other day is 48 years old. Not that it would be acceptable for someone younger to display such poor sportsmanship, but I find her behavior even more peculiar since I’ve learned she’s close in age to me. I could not in a million years imagine shoving anyone, [Read More]

#OneSmallChange Link Up Week 5

November 5, 2013

October flew by and if you’ve been hanging with us, you may have made up to 4 small changes to your lifestyle already! Ok on to November! How did last week go? Were you successful with your change if you made one? Remember it’s totally ok to hold and not take on a new challenge [Read More]

When Races Turn Ugly

November 4, 2013

Thing 1 and I ran the Panting for Paws 5k this weekend. It benefitted a local animal shelter/rescue; love that. Weather was perfection: cold and clear. We were raring to go…sort of… After much hemming and hawing on Thing 1’s part, I made the executive decision to run with her, since none of her friends [Read More]

3 Halloween Things

October 31, 2013

Trigger happy and it feels good: I officially registered for the Flying Pig Skyline Chili 3-way last night. That’s a 5k, 10k and half marathon over Flying Pig weekend next May. Thing 1 is in for the kids’ marathon. Thing 2 is in for the Flying Piglets race. Should be piggish fun! What races are [Read More]

WIAW: Grain Brain Edition

October 30, 2013

I dove into the Grain Brain Challenge on Sunday with the prescribed 24-hr. fast. Just plenty of water for me. Here’s how the first day of Grain Brain eats went: Because my fast started and ended midday, my first official meal was lunch: Homemade 3-bean turkey chili leftover from our Halloween party. Mid afternoon was tough. [Read More]

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
