Weekend Rewind

June 22, 2010

Happy summer solstice! Summer in Teamarcialand kicks off birthday season. 9 of the 11 grandkids in the family as well as Modern Caveman all have summer birthdays. That means I pretty much cook, shop and party myself silly.

This weekend was typical. Saturday brought a combo party for my brother’s 3 kiddos.
I had my dad, my 5 sibs and their families over for Father’s Day. Wow I made some divine strawberry shortcake with chia seeds in the dough. I’ll share that recipe soon!

On the exercise front, I’m glad I decided to forego any racing as it was steamy and stormy. I had every intention of taking out Blanche the trusty roadbike for a spin on Saturday, alas sleep won out.

I managed a guilt-ridden 11-mile run on Sunday in the heat coupled with humidity you could cut with a knife.

Mileage last week? Who cares? That’s the last time I’m gonna be saying that for awhile as I reported bright and early this morning for Chicago Marathon training. I’m excited to see there will be a sizable contingent of bloggy friends in Chi-town on 10/10/10! Let’s get this party started!

Weekend Rewind

June 7, 2010

These almost-summer weekends are brimming with activities, events and obligations. The calendar around here is so full, the fear of missing something really important constantly looms over my head. I’ve had a couple of close calls but, fingers crossed, no total disasters yet.

Ice Show Extravaganza

I think I inhaled enough glitter-infused hairspray and luminescent mineral stage make-up to keep my Kleenexes sparkling for some time to come.   It was exhilarating and exhausting at the same time to help 100 jittery skating divas prepare for the show. It gives me new appreciation for the lengths my mom went for me.

Off to Camp!

Moving on to the next adventure, Thing 1 is headed to Girl Scout Camp this morning! It’s  mostly a day camp with a couple of overnighters and a couple of chaperoning opportunities for me–gotta seize these opportunities while she’s still not completely embarrassed to have me around right?

Oh Yeah it’s Race Week

I guess I do have a certain 1/2 marathon sneaking up on me this Sunday. Of course I don’t feel ready for it at all. I’m gonna keep it low-key and just have fun with it–as if that’s possible.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
