Preliminary Runnbatical and a Winner

November 1, 2010

Preliminary Runnbatical Week is complete: 15 miles

Monday: 40 minute easy bike ride (there may have been there was coasting…just saying)

Tuesday: Sick (Caught the Caveman’s dandy head cold)

Wednesday: Sick

Thursday: Plyometric intervals and corework

Friday: Weights for lower body (resulted in temporary paralysis so success)

Saturday: Weights for upper body (more paralysis = more success) Corework, 1 hr ice skating with kids.

Sunday: Ran 13 miles easy (this may seem high but it was for a good reason I’ll share later)

Notes: I jump started my runnbatical, which officially starts today. I ran even less than planned, courtesy of the cold and most of my activity was loaded toward the weekend when I felt better but whatever.
What I’d forgotten: Holy mama I need some endorphins! My mood took a nosedive as the days without running passed. Obviously the bike ride and weight work were not hard enough.

My runnbatical goals:
Physical and mental break from running: less miles with less intensity.

Build strength: Especially in hips, glutes, hamstrings

Regain flexibility: I’d really like to be able to get my knees down in lotus position by the end of the year. Hamstrings are super tight too.

No weight gain: Going to hop on that scale now for a baseline.

Runnbaticalers please share your goals!
Join us! Runnbatical runs through year end so feel free to jump in when your official  training ends.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
