Weekend Rewind: Single Girl Edition

July 27, 2010

Week 5 of Chicago Marathon training is incomplete. Miles? don’t ask. Rather than bore you with a play-by-play, let’s hit the highlights. If you remember I was SINGLE for 4 of last week’s 7 days. No Caveman, no kiddos. Just me, my running shoes, bike, car keys, etc. you know the important stuff. What did [Read More]

Speaking of Shoes…

July 17, 2010

I mentioned awhile back we joined a new uber gym. They had us at the pool with its full complement of  water slides, zero depth area and snack bar. Hello summer!   Once I overcame my intimidation and studied a map sufficiently to navigate my way around the 3-story uber gym complex complete with platoons [Read More]

Show Me Your Race Medals

July 16, 2010

Marlene showed us her race medals this morning and asked to see ours in return. Although I’ve been meaning to erect a shrine in our workout room, somehow that hasn’t quite happened yet, and my bling resides in a humble cardboard box. For your viewing pleasure: There are 5 marathon medals and 6 1/2 marathon [Read More]

Week 1 of Chicago Marathon Training is complete! Miles: 45Here’s how it shook out: Monday: Was all gung-ho and traded an SRD for a Cross-Fit class at our new gym (more on that later). Run for Cover!

June 28, 2010

Today’s long run was a little too…um…electrifying for my taste. We’ve been experiencing extreme heat, humidity and thunderstorms du jour here in the Midwest lately and no surprise, more of the same was forecast for today. I watched the forecast closely and plotted a window of time to sneak in 13 miles before the skies [Read More]

Once Upon a Strawberry

June 25, 2010

9 years ago today I had been lying in the hospital for 3 days, awaiting the birth of my daughter, fondly known around here as Thing 1. My due date was still 2 weeks off when The Caveman and I went to our town’s Strawberry Fest. It was sweltering hot that day and parking was [Read More]

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
