Weekend Rewind: The Ultimate Sacrifice

October 24, 2011

Are you sitting down? I’ll wait.
The weather was sparkling and cool and fabulous here all weekend. Lows in the high 30’s, highs approaching 70, fall colors at their peak.
My long run did not happen.
Yes, you read that right. No run of any kind in fact, unless you count some meager warmup time on the mill.

The Caveman is in Vegas, alas I’m single parenting for an entire week.
I know this is the norm for many so I’m not whining…well yes I am…but still…

Here’s how last week went:
Monday: 6 mile run, 10 miles bike, lower body weights, hip work
Tuesday:  Plyometric intervals on mill (horrible and rainy)
Wednesday: Rest (wind/rain)
Thursday: Full body weights, hip/glute/corework (wind/rain)
Friday: 6 mile run, lower body weights
Saturday: Halloween party–that in itself was enough of a workout
Sunday: Upper body weights, core, hip exercises. I dragged the kids on a nature hike so don’t feel too bad for us. We got out and enjoyed.

Here we are hiking. I’m probably butt clenching too, cuz that’s the norm these days.
What? You don’t hike with your purse?
Thing 2’s latest love is her panda hat. Will. Not. Take. It. Off.

Notes
I ran Garmin-free all week for two reasons:
1. Rather than be reminded of how slow I am, I wanted to just find a happy pace that didn’t include walking. Mission accomplished.
2. I couldn’t find it–I found my Zensah arm sleeves though, so we’ll call it a draw.

I’ve reinstituted my 30 pushups, 2x/day plan, which, once upon a time, was the norm for me. Until I did the 100 pushup challenge, after which I dropped pushups like a hot potato. No bueno. If I can’t find my fast I’ll find my strong.

I still haven’t ventured back to the yoga studio since the incident. Maybe next week?

Knock wood, the hip continues to feel good–although I feel like I want someone to yank on it and snap it like fresh linens…maybe a visit to Dr. Miracle is in order…

I made some baby steps on my organizational training plan I’ll share in an upcoming post.

I managed to sneak in an 8-mile long run as soon as I got the kids off to school this morning. I followed that up with 10 miles on the bike. It’s still sparkling and cool. This week is off to a decent start.

What’s on tap for today? For this week?

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
