Vacation in New York City

November 15, 2011

Since I’m so tired and in dire need of catching up on everything, hello laundry, blogs, mail, I’ll make it quick today and share some pics of our anniversary weekend in New York. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes here and on Facebook!

First order of business: Seek out and sample as many ice rinks as possible. In one day.

1. Central Park–The Wollman rink. Uber crowded, $$$ and the ice was horrible–even immediately after Zamboni’ing. Ridonkulously rigid rules that allow only forward skating and no jumps, spins, turns. Nothing. Note to Donald Trump: Lighten up on the rules dude, we couldn’t really get our skate on.

2. Bryant Park–Caveman took Thing 2 back to the hotel and we ended up sans camera. The horror.

3. Finally our iconic nightcap at Rockefeller center. Even more crowded, crappier ice, more $$$ and a smaller skating surface. But no rules at all.

Thing 1 was out of her mind with excitement.
Second order of business: Hit up Central Park for non-skating related activities.
It’s still gorgeous and mild here, with leaves still near peak. Chi-town leafage is so over it’s pathetic.
Carriage ride thru Central park. Check.
The kids were digging Harry our horse. Ok so was I.
And of course I ran. Loved it! Beautiful with way more rolling hills than this pansy flatlander is used to but still loved it. There was a bike race in progress Sunday morning, which was cool.
Toward the end of the 6-mile loop I discovered the reservoir in the middle of the park. Had to return the next day to run that. Pure awesome.
The running pics are still on my phone and I feel like this post is already too long so I won’t bore you any further. For now anyway.
I’m off to catch up!
What was the highlight of your weekend?

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
