Workout Clothes: The Smelly Truth/Giveaway

February 21, 2012

As runners and fitness enthusiasts, we love our technical fabrics. They wick sweat away, keep us comfy and (hopefully) free from chafing. But oh the lingering odor if we don’t treat them right.

I’ve been asked too many times to count how to wash workout clothes and I’ve happily shared my recipe:
I pre-soak everything in a water/OxyClean solution, machine wash in cold water, air dry. Air dry is key since the dryer has a way of locking in nasty odors for. ever.

Awhile back the peeps at 2Toms sent me some of their Stink Free Sports Detergent
I tried it when we were just back from Key West with a boatload of sweaty workout clothes that had been stewing in their own stench in our post-vacation luggage. Don’t you love unpacking?

It felt weird not to pre-soak but I followed directions and just whipped everything in the washer then air dried as usual. As promised, the entire load came out completely odor free.
Pros
Stink Free Sports Detergent is effective and safe on all high-performance fabrics and colors. It can be used in place of everyday detergent, is perfume-free and won’t leave any residue.
Cons
This stuff is pricey. At $12.99 for 30 oz. it’s significantly more than I pay for ‘regular’ detergent + Oxyclean. But it does save time in that I’m not pre-soaking.

WIN IT!
I’ve got a sample pack of 2Toms Stink Free Sports Detergent, exactly like the one I tried, for one lucky reader.
To Enter:
Simpy tell me in a comment how you wash your workout clothes.

I’ll randomly pick a winner on 2/24.
Good Luck!

Note: I was given this product free of charge but my opinions are my own.
