November 30, 2010

One month of my runnbatical is complete! How’s it going you ask? Coming along nicely! Let’s review my objectives: Physical and mental break from running. Check!I’ve succeeded in keeping the Garmin off my wrist, have done zero speedwork and have run a race ‘by feel’, although I feel like it’s time to at least order a [Read More]

Weekend Rewind

November 29, 2010

Where There’s SmokeThanksgiving dinner at the inlaws’ got a little, (ok a lot) exciting. Spilled turkey drippings in the oven resulted in some impressive (and alarming) flames not to mention hours of billowing smoke. Respirator anyone?I was thankful:I ran the 10k for the extra endorphin boost.Loaded up on French toast and pancakes at said 10k.Everyone [Read More]

Race Report: Turkey Trot 10k

November 26, 2010

Bobbi and me pre-race The forecast called for raw temps accompanied by wind and rain. So I loaded up gear for every possibility, wondered why in the hell I was doing this and headed out sans posse. Bobbi and I met before we lined up and huddled in her car, cursing the weather and me [Read More]

This One’s For You

November 25, 2010

Of course I’m thankful for so many things. Although it was a challenging year running-wise, I am so grateful for the adventures and opportunities I had, disappointing races and all. The gift of running and the health benefits that come along with it are not something I take for granted. I wanted to give a [Read More]

Black Friday and a Giveaway

November 23, 2010

Seems the Black Friday promotions come earlier and appear larger every year. While I, for one, am happy to take refuge behind my computer for some cyber deals, I have no plans to venture out to physical stores the day after Thanksgiving. One year I sent Modern Caveman out in the wee hours to vie [Read More]

Weekend Rewind and a Winner

November 22, 2010

All the stores seem to be decorated for the holidays already, Christmas music is rampant, so when the kids begged to build our gingerbread house, in keeping with the ‘jump-the-gun’ spirit, I gave in. The project started with high hopes.  Then it got a tad silly.  Just when Thing 2 finally put her tongue back [Read More]

Got Willpower?

November 18, 2010

With the holidays upon us, many of us are thinking about holiday shopping, holiday parties and of course holiday eating. I came across an article about a series of studies recently, in which researchers concluded that intentionally firming your muscles, by making a fist, for example, could increase one’s willpower.  According to the article, the [Read More]

Let’s Hear It For Spectators!

November 16, 2010

Because the Caveman took on a half marathon long before I did, I was on the sidelines cheering before I ever ran in a race. Now that the fall racing season is winding down, I wanted to give special props to the spectators of the world who: Broiled or froze out there for hours on [Read More]

Weekend Rewind: Anniversary Edition

November 15, 2010

So yes, our 12th wedding anniversary came and went. The Caveman frolicked around Central Park in NYC (he claims he’s working, whatev) while I stayed here single parenting…with another cold no less. C’est la vie. Highlights by the numbers: Batches of popcorn made and consumed: 2Batches of cookies baked: 1Pots of soup made: 3Pots of [Read More]

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
