What’s Happening

May 12, 2014

Mother’s Day Virtual 5k. I know, I know I told you I wasn’t racing this weekend. I looked forward to a down week after traipsing around the Midwest for a race (or 3) every single weekend since April 4. Turns out a certain little piglet got bit by the racing bug at Flying Pig and wanted to run a little something. An offer I simply could not refuse.

I’ve admired Jost Running, their virtual races for great causes and gorgeous bling for awhile now. When they asked me to partner with them, I was all over it. So the kids and I set out for a Mother’s Day virtual 5k. This month’s races (there’s a 5k, 10k and half marathon option) benefit ALS.

Jost virtual races are the perfect way to squeeze in a race when your schedule doesn’t allow for a traditional road race. They’re especially great for newer runners who may be intimidated by large crowds. You run or walk your race on your own time, at your own pace. Race bibs can be printed from the Jost Running website and results are logged there as well so you’re part of a community. Now can we talk bling? Never in my wildest did I expect the medals to be half as beautiful as they are. They’re large, creatively designed works of art. Even sparkly!

mayjostmedalHere’s this month’s half marathon medal. Gorgeous and pretty darn giant as well. For the latest info. and to register for upcoming races, check out the Jost Running website and go like their Facebook page.

Post-Pig Malaise. I’d be lying if I said the Flying Pig 3-way didn’t wear me out. While the soreness was minimal, my runs last week left much to be desired so I laid low. I felt on the edge of a cold and by the weekend, was gifted with a blanket of chest congestion. Pffft. This weekend’s half may be more of a fun run than a race and that’s ok.

garden

Garden is all in! After a super long winter, we finally got a warm spell and I transferred the veggie seedlings I started indoors weeks ago to our community garden. It doesn’t look like much now, but hopefully that will be a different story in a few weeks.

chickens

And, a new addition this year, CHICKENS! Thing 2 has already assigned names to the flock.

What’s happening with you? Did you enjoy Mother’s Day? There’s still time to enter my giveaway!

Sounds like a great way to spend Mother’s Day! We went for a hike…nice to slow things down for a change! How awesome that you have chickens! I love fresh eggs, so much better than from the store!

I LOVE that you have chickens. I’ve been wanting them & my family (except for my little guy) thinks I’m crazy! Please post how it goes & what you do in the winter.
    So exciting!

Yay on the garden!! My mom has chickens and we grew up with my grandparents having them as well. They’d let my sister and I pick out a few of the “fancy” kind. I had one named Betty Boop.

Jost does have really nice medals! I have one of their “soaring” ones from last Sept. I wonder how much goes to the medals and how much to ALS.

    CHICKENS!!! fun 🙂

I am so jealous you have chickens! I’m planting our garden on a rolling timeframe so that we have, theoretically, things ripening all the time, starting in a few weeks (hooray for quick-growing radishes!).

Those medals are awesome! I am growing some tomato plants in my office until it is time to plant them outside and it is so fun to come in every morning and see how great they look! So cool that you have chickens:)

Those medals are super cool! Love that your little one is hooked. After my school’s 5K (for which I volunteered my husband and youngest child), Jacob was all about doing a race after being at the finish line. Not sure that sentiment will stick around long enough for him to follow through.

I hear you on the malaise. I’m chalking up my current meh-ness to general lingering fatigue from Cedar Cross. That and not getting to bed early enough.
