Runfession Friday: Post-Marathon Haze

October 29, 2015

Runfession Friday is upon us once again! Spill your run-, gym-, swim-, heck any confessions will do and link them up below. I promise you’ll feel better! Ok let’s get this party started:

Runfessions

When I ran the Twin Cities Marathon earlier this month, I tucked my drivers license in my fuel belt pocket so I could access the beer tent apres race. I have my priorities. It wasn’t until 3 weeks later that I realized said driver’s license was still tucked in my fuel belt. Remember when I almost got arrested? I’d still be in the slammer for driving without a license. Can you say scofflaw?

Also jammed in said fuel belt were no less than five gels. All but one of them I hoarded in desperation at mile 17 of the race. Apparently it was my mission to take a gel from every single volunteer that offered one. Mission accomplished.

I went through the usual stages in Twin Cities:

At mile 18: Ugh why am I doing this?

At mile 20: I’m never doing this again!

At mile 22: NO MORE satan-spawn marathons for me.

Mile 24: This @%@#ing race totally !!@$. I’m !@$%ing dying. Hey pretty church. I’m never doing !&(#@ !@%&@ !@%&. Wait that’s not the @#$! finish line? Where’s the beer tent?

A mere hour or so later, there we sat talking about our next marathon. In a dehydrated, brain-addled state, I agreed to a fall marathon (Indy Monumental) next year. But that wasn’t enough. When I got home, there I sat entertaining another fall marathon THIS year. I scrutinized course elevations, prices, how long it would take to drive. Like a true junkie, I eyed winter and early spring races too: RnR NOLA, Avenue of the Giants, Gasparilla.

stop the madness

My Asics were stars at the marathon. Not a blister or hot spot in sight. And yet? I’ve been unfaithful. I may have been caught tramping around with my old love, Mizuno. We had so many good years together and look at the pretty green.

It’s not a shoe for the long haul but it’s still fun for a quick 6-mile romp. #shoewhore

rt66 medal

I tell you medals don’t matter (that much) then I’m drawn like a magpie to this shiny number. It’s ever so pretty because its the 10th anniversary. There’s a free jacket too. Because I need a jacket like I need another hole in the head.

I’ve been riding Blanche the trusty road bike all summer and fall with the number from last June’s tri still hanging on her. Am I clinging to a past accomplishment? Or just plain lazy? I choose the later.

The Runfessional is open! Come spill your #running transgressions! #runchat

There! I feel better already. Your turn! Is there a race medal you covet?

I want all the medals and to run all the races. But I’m done. For the moment.

Tara looks like she indulged in several beers there. Oh wait, she did!! Bahahahah.

I’m still saying you girls need to come to LA!!! Olympic Trials the day before. Super hilly course. What more could you want???

Oh hey, thinking of coming to Chi-town in January. Will let you know if it pans out! πŸ™‚

That medal is certainly some BLING! πŸ™‚

I like that you named your bike. I used to ride my spin bike all the time, I totally should have named her. πŸ™‚

Hah! I say racing is like childbirth. In the labor & delivery room you say “never again” but then you usually do!

  5. Kelli says

    October 30, 2015 at 4:46 am

Haha, my bike is on the trainer and it still has the number from my last tri over a month ago. I’d love to say there is a reason – like I am basking in the glow of winning that tri – but the truth is I am lazy. I can totally identify with the thought process in those final stages of a marathon. I’m sure I would still be doing them if triathlon hadn’t stolen my heart!

Really, what is wrong with us? We aren’t bling whores. Is it the lure of the 26.2?

    It’s a sickness.

    RNR NOLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    October 30, 2015 at 7:20 am

I’m not sure I’ll fall into the mesmerizing lure of another full that is if I can get this one but I think halfs will be crazy fun!!! Oh Marcia I would so act like a fan girl if you came to Nola for RnR lol. Humm bling I am eyeing, Kentucky half with the horse. I’d love to fun by the horse farms. Have a great weekend. Headed to Nola shortly!

    October 30, 2015 at 8:15 am

This is why you never say never about racing πŸ˜‰ I have to say that Rte 66 bling is a pretty one.

  10. Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says

    October 30, 2015 at 8:48 am

Part of my motivation for running is definitely the bling. When you see a great medal, its definitely hard to say no to signing up for that race.

  11. Stephanie says

    October 30, 2015 at 8:51 am

That is a big medal! No running for me until February, I’m so wishy washy about it!

  12. Karen says

    October 30, 2015 at 9:47 am

Ha! Your mile 24 has me cracking up! I am sure I will get to experience that joy one of these days lol
I will often tell myself I will curse on a run, then boom I hit a hill and all goes south lol

  13. Alexandra @ My Urban Family says

    October 30, 2015 at 9:57 am

I love your bike’s name! That was my great aunts name and I’ve never heard it used anywhere else ever ha.

  14. Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs says

    October 30, 2015 at 10:02 am

I’ve been racing since before you received a medal for just running any distance except a marathon, so they don’t mean all that much to me unless they’re an age group award. I do love though, the medal I received for the Costume Party Half Marathon a couple years ago. It’s huge, and has a rotating mirror ball in the middle.

  15. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says

    October 30, 2015 at 10:26 am

I always end up leaving my credit card or driver’s license in my handheld water bottle! So funny how you feel miserable during a race and once it’s over, you’re ready to get back out there!

    Have a great weekend!

  16. Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says

    October 30, 2015 at 12:00 pm

oh yeah shoes love to collect them myself. It’s nice to match up the colors with your outfit right

  17. Nicole @ Fitful Focus says

    October 30, 2015 at 1:01 pm

I can’t believe you had your license in your fuel belt for so long. Too funny! I told Wendy this, but I’ll tell you, too – I think we need to create an app for runners that locks them out of registering for any other races within a month of finishing a marathon – that runner’s high can mess with our heads… and our wallets!

  18. Michelle says

    October 30, 2015 at 1:27 pm

Ha, I’ve done the same with my debit card. I have no ‘fessions this month, sadly. Hopefully next month!

  19. Ariana says

    October 30, 2015 at 2:41 pm

Great runfessions! πŸ˜‰ I am strongly debating heading to Seattle in March for the Hot Chocolate 15k – the medal looks so cute! And the Rock ‘n Roll World Rocker medal is pretty….and the RnR Cascadia medal…and…and…and…

  20. Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says

    October 30, 2015 at 3:26 pm

LOL. I felt the same way and for a split second I contemplated bumping up to the full marathon in Vegas….maybe we should do it together…I mean we ARE already trained, lol.

  21. Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says

    October 30, 2015 at 3:38 pm

RNR Nola is FUN! I might be doing Nashville next April. If not, I’m doing the Pig 3-way. You did that, right? I’ve also heard rumblings of others doing Monumental next year so I might have to think about the half. Or the full. Or the half. Yes. The full.

  22. Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says

    October 30, 2015 at 4:45 pm

I haven’t started looking at marathons again – yet. I know it will happen sometime soon though, I want to break 4 hours next time! πŸ™‚

The Route 66 swag is so tempting. I’ve done that half a couple of times. If I wasn’t injured…

NOLA isn’t that far from me. Just sayin’.

  24. Char says

    October 30, 2015 at 7:04 pm

You know it can’t possibly be your last marathon because I’m planning on trying to talk you into New York 2017. If I’m coming all the way over there I want to meet you.

  25. Karen @ Fit in France says

    October 31, 2015 at 2:59 am

I know that feeling of being on a high after a race and immediately wanting to sign up for another. So frustrating when you can not find one ! The race season drops off here between November and February…. I have been scouring the internet for a race but don’t have one on my calendar for another month. I feel like I am going through withdrawal !

  26. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

    October 31, 2015 at 6:17 am

I have a little holder for my cell phone (which doesn’t actually have a protective case & I know I’ll really regret that one of these days); I keep some money, a few credit cards, my registration, proof of insurance, and my license in there. Makes it easier for me not to forget to have that stuff.

Only the holder is so old that I also live in constant fear of losing my license!

I think we’ve all been there with the shoes & signing up for the next one even though we swear we’re never going to do another.

  27. Tamieka@fitballingrunningmom says

    October 31, 2015 at 7:52 am

    Congrats on the marathon!

Your mile 18-end sound like me when running a half-lol!!

That is some fancy bling! i think my favorite bling right now is the one from the cherry blossom race.

There is something about racing…isn’t there?

  28. Mary Beth Jackson says

LOL! Love this! I put stuff in my fuel belt too, if people are handing it out, well then I have to have it! The bling does make us crazy! I am eyeballing something in Wisconsin and something in Indy, any suggestions?

I still have a tri race number on my bike too. Hard to let it go. Haha! I also totally grab all the gels I can get when I start to panic during a race that I might bonk!
