Race Medals of 2018

December 10, 2018

I’m still shaking my head at how quickly this year flew by. It’s time already to look back on 2018 and reminisce about our races, especially the bling attained in the process.

Race Medals of 2018

For me it was a low-key year racing-wise. The thyroid fiasco that occurred at the end of 2017 left me overweight and feeling pretty horrible for the first half of 2018. Certainly not in racing shape.

That didn’t stop me from checking off a race that’s been on my bucket list longer than any other: The Gasparilla Race Series in Tampa. I’ve wanted to run this FOR EVER. 2018 was finally the year I would.

In February I took on the Michelob Ultra Amber Challenge (15k, 5k, half) and had a blast doing it. Not a bad haul for a weekend, eh? Those skulls did not disappoint!

In May we road tripped to LaCrosse, Wisconsin for the Driftless Sports Convergence.  While there I ran the River to Ridge Trail Race, which was basically running up a freaking mountain.

In July I ran RnRChicago for the 6th time. Running is always better with friends and this weekend was no exception.

I ran destination half marathons on back-to-back weekends in September.

First up was Zooma Great Lakes Half, which was hot, hillacious and so much fun.

Next came Lululemon’s Sea Wheeze Half in Vancouver, which is one of the prettiest courses I’ve ever run, despite the rain. Oh and hands down the prettiest medal in my stash.

Overall it was a lean racing year by my standards. I just haven’t been motivated to race as much as usual and I’ve become rather choosy in my old age. That said, 2019 promises to be exciting..and I can’t wait to check off world marathon major numbers 5 and 6.

The Tuesdays on the Run Linkup is all about Race Medals! Show us what you got in 2018! #running #runchat #totr

That’s awesome that you were able to run the Gasparilla Race Series since that’s been on your bucket list. Those medals are huge too!

I think that your Chicago medals are my favorite 🙂

I feel like such a slug, that looks like a whole lot of racing to me!

My 1812 medal was definitely the favorite, just cause you know . . . 18 miles. Now, If I could just find an 18 mile race where I didn’t have to train through winter or summer . . .

Congrats on your year of racing! A lean year but full of high quality races, that’s what counts! This year ended up super light for me, but I’m just grateful I’m still able to run and I’m making my way back! Hopefully we can find a race to meet next year!

Gasparilla is for sure a great weekend! I’ve done it twice. I love the pirate half marathon medal!

Seawheeze keeps getting rave reviews…maybe I’ll look into that one!

I might have to add Gasparilla to my running bucket list. Looks like a great runcation!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
