Some Weekend This and That

November 14, 2009

The Slam Heard Throughout the Running World. The 2010 Boston Marathon reached it’s capacity yesterday, MONTHS before it closed last year, shutting out countless hopefuls who have yet to qualify at their fall/winter marathons. My heart goes out to all who didn’t get in this year. Here’s to 2011.

11 Years Ago Today I was a bride. Yes, happy wedding anniversary to Mr. Running Off At the Mouth and Me! The traditional 11th anniversary gift is “steel”. I considered this little lovely at left…for a nanosecond….ok no I didn’t. While I enjoy the island relaxation sentiment, could this be just a smidge tackier? I think not. I got out for a celebratory 11-miler this morning. This typically would have waited for Sunday but hey you only go around once right? Plus they’re saying rain for tomorrow…
And finally my Whole Foods Diet Initiative Update. It’s been 2 weeks with pretty much nothing processed or sugary. I’ve done well, up until the other day when I started craving sugar, specifically chocolate in the WORST way. Is this my body’s way of saying “Ok now that’s enough of this nonsense, show me the carbs before I have to drop some poundage”? I succumbed to a small handful of semisweet chocolate chips, praying the floodgates wouldn’t open to a full-fledged binge. So far so good but it hasn’t been easy. Today, craving cocoa so badly again, I went so far as to pick up a container of  dark chocolate covered cranberries from where else? Trader Joe’s this morning. I rationalized them by saying I needed the antioxidant power of the chocolate and cranberries. I treated myself to a handful of divine chocolately, free-radical slaying bliss. So there have been a couple of breaches but overall I’m not off the wagon–as yet anyway.

Hi, I found your blog today and I LOVE it, thanks for writing!

I'm going to incorporate a no-sugar week! I teach high school and there is sugar in every's office – it's so easy to walk past and grab a few miniature chocolates…which quickly turn into 10. And I know better but can't seem to stop.

I work with a trainer, and am one myself, and find that if you eat 6 smaller meals a day, for a runner, this works better on your overall metabolism and fuels your legs better. I have not been following this lately either but am going to again tomorrow.

A true bummer about Boston – so glad I signed up last week after just lazily not doing so. I have a dear friend running Tucson with me in Dec to try to BQ – what a total bummer for him. I guess he can get in in 2011…but still…

You're a true inspiration – thank you! Can't wait to read more of your posts! ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice Blog! I've done the no sugar thing too and still generally stay away from it. Not always easy though! Congrats on Boston! See you there

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
