Training Recap

January 10, 2010

Boston Training Week #2 is complete! 39 miles

The week went like this:
Monday: SRD
Tuesday: Yoga class and Speedwork: 800m repeats. These were hard but tame compared to last week’s mile repeats.
Wednesday: 10 miles. This is the ‘extra endurance run’ I’ve added to my plan. It was great until about 8 miles, then became somewhat leaden.
Thursday: 8 mile tempo run. Surprised at how fresh I felt coming off the 10-miler the day before.
Friday: Muscle Conditioning Class
Saturday: Yoga and weights
Sunday: 15 miles. Holy mother this was hard, only because the weather continues to be my ultimate challenge. It was 1 measley degree when I got up. I planned to start on the mill until it warmed a bit but changed my mind and got out when it was 3. Oh my THE WIND! I really should have gotten a WC number before deciding to head out. It turned out to be more of a winter multisport event as not only was I running and fixating on the image in my head of a frostbitten nose, I did:

  •  lots of ice dancing
  • more than my share of snowshoeing (sans snowshoes) SHOVEL YOUR SIDEWALK PLEASE!
  • even a few incidents of mountaineering on the monolithic snow banks.
To compound matters, Modern Caveman tampered surprised me with some new tripe stuff on my Shuffle:
A few Boston songs (great)
Some song from a beer commercial (his idea of motivation not mine)
The theme from Monday Night Football (see above)
The theme from either Ponderosa or Gunsmoke, not sure which (men. I swear)
Hello and welcome to the new A-Listers!
I am so happy to have you here!
Have a Super Week!

The wind was BRUTAL yesterday! Great job getting the 15-miler in, and really, the whole week ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so frustrated when people don't shovel! I am lucky that the townhome area I live in is shoveled by the association, so I can at least run there.

  14. Laura says

    January 11, 2010 at 1:52 pm

Great job! We only had a few patches where people had not shovelled…but we cursed them anyway and sent good karma to those who had shovelled and salted.

You just earned like 12 shiny badass medals for doing that 15 miler in 3 degree weather (I don't even want to know the WC factor) and I can just picture you toppling around in the snowbanks and sheets of ice … good Lord woman! You have a nice set of balls there if you don't mind me saying so …

Also, LOL at Caveman adding all those random songs to your iPod, I woulda died laughing when the Monday night Football song came on!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
