Marathon of Fitness Extravaganza

February 20, 2010

I went to the YMCA to do some pool running today.
I got there to find a large charity event going on. The more activities you do, the more money is raised for the Strong Kids Campaign. What’s not to like?

So I did:
1 hr group cycle
1 hr muscle conditioning
1 hr yoga

Then I headed to the pool to finish up with some pool running. Thanks to all of you who’ve encouraged me about this activity. After reading up on it I’m hopeful it’ll keep me in good shape until I can hit the roads again.

Turns out the pool was pure pandemonium: kids swim lessons, a large water aerobics class in progress, alas only one open swim lane that was far from open. As I stood there on the pool deck I decided 3 hours of activity was enough.

You guessed it. I wussed out and headed home to a protein shake, cafe mocha, Olympics coverage and more ice on the ornery tibialis. I know, I probably should have hit the pool first. Tomorrow is another day.

It sounds like you were busy enough!! I am hoping you are on the mend – spring will be here soon and you will be ready to go on the road.

BTW, late evenings are the best time for me to swim – I usually can have the whole pool to myself after 7:30. Heaven!

I went to the pool today too and it was also completely overrun with children…screaming. We were just trying to enjoy the hot tub post-workout, but that's not so easy to do with screaming, splashing children all around you. I hate the pool on the weekends!

Good attitude…tomorrow is another day! I wish I just had my own indoor pool for swimming and pool running. I know, I ask for a lot!

If you were doing 3 hours of non-running stuff at the gym, I'm guessing your Achilles is not better :(. I'm finally on an antibiotic and after 2 weeks of crap in my head, feeling quasi better. Tomorrow the pool should be less chaotic, I doubt they do lessons on Sundays!!??!!

You did three hours! So what if you left out the pool running at the end?

Your pool experience sounds like a GREAT prep for an open water swim at a triathlon…;-)
    hm….maybe you're onto something?

Hey 3 hours is nothing to sneeze at (never did get this expression :)). You can start with the pool another day, or another!

There's no such thing as wussing out after 3 hours of exercise. Way to go! I can't wait to hear how running in the pool goes.

Thanks for the comment on my last post, I'm sorry to hear it's something which has affected you too but I'm glad you're ok now!

You got a great workout in even if you couldn't get in the pool!

I think the other 3 hours of exercise more than make up for the lack of pool running!! What a wuss you are!! I watched the Olympics with a big coffee and didn't run at all and it wasn't my off day! Oops!

I have read your posts one or two times now. (I am new to the blogging world. Yeah, I'm usually the last to catch on to everything.) Anyway, you are very dedicated to your running and your workouts. I'm impressed with how much you are doing in preparation for Boston. Heck, I'm impressed with you for qualifying. (I'm impressed with everyone that qualifies for Boston!) I agree with many other comments here, a 3 hour workout is nothing to shake a stick at. It's great. You're dedicated so you'll do the pool workout another day. Good luck healing!

3 hours!!! Wow. Injuried and you are still putting in 3 hours. You are dedicated to staying fit. I hope you heal quickly.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
