Training Recap

February 8, 2010

Week 6 of Boston Marathon Training is Complete: 33 miles

Monday: Yoga
Tuesday: Speedwork: 2×1200, 4x800m
Wednesday: Kettleworx Core and Shoulders/Arms DVDs
Thursday: 6 mile tempo run
Friday: Muscle Conditioning Class
Saturday: Yoga, ice skating with the kids
Sunday: 20 miles, ice skating with the kids

Notes: This week I dropped my 4th run completely. Like a cheap car, I’ve felt a bit shaky when my mileage has gotten up in to the 40 mpw range. At this point, to me it’s more important to avoid injury than it is to run a ton of miles. One then both of my knees were bothering me last week. I wanted to make sure this week’s 20 was a good solid run, and thankfully it was (all bachelor shoes issues aside). I feel a bit of achilles/calf strain probably from the Newtons, if that’s still around tomorrow, I’ll push my speedwork to Wednesday.

Final Day!

You are a smart runner – keep up the good work! And you're right – higher mileage doesn't necessarily mean better quality. Have a great Monday!!

while you dropped your 4th run you still got in quality – 2 speed days and a killer long run! yeah you definitely didn't lose anything by dropping another run. and uh, skating after a 20-miler? i definitely pass out on the couch personally ๐Ÿ™‚

Better to be safe and get a quality run rather than overtrain and injure yourself. HighFive!

You're gonna run 20 then ice skate?! Good for you. I think running 20 then walking might be tough.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
