Weightloss Wednesday

May 18, 2011

Can you believe I’ve been doing this Veggie-Centric diet for 9 Weeks? The weekly weightloss might be small but it all adds up:

Week 1: -2
Week 2: No weigh-in due to vacay
Week 3: -2
Week 4: 0
Week 5: -1
Week 6: +2
Week 7:-1
Week 8: -1
Week 9: -1
Total: -6
1 lb. to go to get to Boston weight

Good:
I’m back into my skinniest jeans.

I’ve incorporated lots of new (to me) veggies into my diet and have no problem getting 7 servings of fruits/veggies into my day.

I no longer drag food to the computer and eat mindlessly.

In an attempt to find the cause of my fatigue I’ve experimented with cutting out dairy and wheat gluten.
Except for an occasional Greek yogurt and pizza cheese, I’ve been dairy-free the entire 9 weeks. I’ve subbed in coconut-, almond- and hemp-milk.
I am very close to being gluten-free. Lots of brown rice and quinoa going on here.

Caffeine: I’ve switched to half-caff during the week (I don’t have coffee everyday). I still enjoy full strength  coffee before my weekend long run.

Bad:
Although I was the first few weeks, I am no longer entirely sugar-free.

I still struggle with portion sizes, especially of snacks.

I have not yet made a love connection with brussels sprouts–actually I only tried to prepare them once. The rest of the time I let them grow old in the crisper.
I sliced them up and sauteed them with green onion…maybe some other veggies/spices, I blocked it out. There was a squeeze of fresh lemon involved…I wanted to like them…but I didn’t.

Ugly:
I had a huge chocolate relapse right after Easter with all the candy laying around. It brought the cravings right back.

I’m not nearly as passionate about my diet as I was in the first few weeks and I’m fighting the urge to slide back to my old ways. I’m ready to shift my focus to marathon training.

Overall:
I am happy with where I am right now. I’m still trying to isolate a cause for the fatigue, which comes and goes. I’m actually feeling great this week after the 5k, some killer speedwork and being gluten-free.
Could I be thinner? Of course, but I’m not going to obsess over it. I’m still above where Matt Fitzgerald says my racing weight should be, but by all other accounts, I’m at a healthy weight, my body fat has decreased and my BMI is well within the normal range. I came across an article that discussed “happy weight’. This probably has no validity whatsoever but FWIW (probably nothing), I am 3 lbs below my ‘happy weight’. So I guess that makes me ecstatic.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
