Random Friday Stuff

March 9, 2012

I’m in for MCM! I was this close to giving up and trying again later as the computer was locking up and we were running late on 3/7. Thankfully my transaction finally went through. Given the fact that it sold out in 2 ours and 40 minutes, I’m guessing it was more than 90% full by the time I eked in my registration in, so ‘later’ would not have been an option. It was meant to be!ย What race tops your bucket list?

Solar flares. Our power was out the entire night of the solar flares. Coincidence? I think not. The strange weather lately has been attributed to these flares: hello tornadoes, high winds, volcanic eruptions, and crazy rain. Apparently flares can cause humans to behave erratically as well: mood swings, dizziness, abrupt life changes, new blogs anyone? I was hoping to see some aurora action but sadly so far that has not been the case. Have you ever seen the Northern Lights?

Back to business. Now that my flu episode is mostly over, (still struggling with residual chest gunk and compromised lung capacity) I’ve resumed workouts and my runs have been weak as can be expected. I can’t help but wonder what kind of shape I’ll be in for next weekend’s half? I’m entertaining the possibility of skipping it, but leaning toward just taking it super easy.

It’s skating competition weekend here!

What is fun and exciting for you this weekend?

I got in the MCM too!!!! I am beyond excited!! I had the same problem registering that you did. It took me 20 minutes to get through. I am so glad I made it in! Congrats to you as well!!

I don’t think I really have a bucket list race, but awesome for you about MCM!!

This weekend we have to buy a new washing machine! SO EXCITING!

My bucket list keeps changing. I still want to do NYC someday, but my loathing of giant crowded races makes it a little less appealing now.

I miss Northern Lights. When I was in college working at a canoe outfitters in the BWCA, I saw them all the time. But that didn’t make them any less breathtaking…

I long to do Hood to Coast someday and I’m really looking forward to NYC’s Tunnels to Towers 5K (after seeing an incredible PBS special)

My husband and I are running 50 races, one in each of the 50 states, before we turn 50- so I look forward to reading other people’s comments for ideas. And I can’t wait to hear about MCM!

I’m totally fascinated by the solar flares. So interesting.

Good luck with MCM!! I’m not sure about bucket list races… I think I want to do the Wine and Dine at DW and maybe Hood to Coast.

Well I am on pace to do the NYC Marathon in 2013. That is my future future bucket list. After that – I will have to assess my running future and figure out races. I am partial to these Disney races.

GL at your skating competitions! Big East tourny and St Paddys Day parades for me! Enjoy your non-flu weekend!

I tried to run MCM twice.. got injured. I’m not sure I’ll ever register for a race that puts me on a plane I’m too afraid of the cost and not getting there.

I thought about you yesterday morning and wondered if you were still considering MCM. Meant to text ya and then the day slipped away. We must chat and catch up soon.

I’ve never seen the Northern Lights but would LOVE to. Maybe we’ll make it a girls’ weekend. Oh wait, is there a marathon involved in that? Cuz you know how stupid we are and can’t meet up unless a race is involved. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy skating this weekend, hope the girls do great!!

Yay so glad you got in to MCM!!

No wild plans here this weekend – it will be the first quiet one in a while and I’m looking forward to it!

    Enjoy your weekend!!

Congrats on getting into the MCM! That one is on my bucket list so hopefully one day I will take the plunge and commit.

Cheers to an injury free training cycle!

#1 reason I miss Alaska: the AURORA.

I don’t have a bucket list for races, but for places to just visit. My biggest one is to run in the French Alps.

Congrats on getting in for MCM! Next on my bucket list (after Boston & Chicago this year) is NYC… that’s not gonna be easy to get into!

Enjoy the weekend! Hope you start to feel more energized. Post-sick “drag” is a drag.

I’m glad you got into MCM! I figured it would sell out quickly, but not that quickly. It was my first marathon, so it holds a special place in my heart.

I don’t have a specific bucket list race but I’d love to travel to either a RnR race or other fun themed event (perhaps a wine country or beer marathon or something… can you tell where my motivation lies?).

Yay for getting into MCM! Hope you continue to feel better. I think you’ll do fine if you run this upcoming half nice and easy.

Congrats on getting into MCM!! That’s exciting. I’d love to run a lot of the east coast races- Philly, NYC, MCM… hoping to be back there closer to family within the next couple of years. It’s so interesting that human behavior can also be affected by all the crazy weather and solar flares… I could blame a few things on that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ooooooh, I can blame my behavior on solar flares? Cool!
Big congrats on getting into MCM – you will love it! And glad you’re feeling better, but don’t push too hard – that congestion can take awhile to clear and only gets worse if you keep irritating your bronchials.

The marathon I’d love to do? New York, London or Paris. Then I could combine it with a holiday.

I want to do Chicago and NYC! Badly! Someday…

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
