Holiday Weekend Rewind

May 29, 2012

It was sizzling hot here in Chi-town–our hottest Memorial Day weekend on record. I was grateful to not be racing for once. Saturday and Monday included some quality time on Blanche the trusty road bike. My Sunday long run started with two promisingly peppy miles. Just as I began to think my days as a super-slow geriatric runner were coming to an end, I hit the wall and the rest of the run/walk was sweat-infused hell.

We entertained on Saturday. I made BBQ ribs for the first time ever. I rubbed and pre-cooked and finished them on the grill. They were divine. 8 billion calories worth of divine. I didn’t wanna go all weird blogger on my guests so no pic.

The feeding frenzy didn’t stop there. There were 8 billion more calories consumed in the form of lemon pound cake and red velvet cupcakes. ย This lonely piece of LPC is all that remains. Wonder how long it will last?

What does a crazy girl do after gorging herself? Why go swimsuit shopping of course! Two mom-kinis and a bikini later my swim 2012 collection was complete…yes I said bikini. It was hot, I was overfed. I may not have had my full faculties when I made the executive decision to buy a bikini. I’m pretty sure the last time I wore one was in 5th grade. It was hot pink with a golden turtle clasp between the boobs. Since then….well…Queen of all prudes does not wear bikinis….until now…maybe…

We spent copious amounts of ย time in the pool. I did not wear my new swimsuits. There’s an issue of the fluorescent white belly. The jury’s still way out on that bikini…

ย Holiday weekend highlights? Please share! Did you race? ย Do you own a bikini? Is it sizzling hot where you are?

Aak, bathing suit shopping – la, la, la, I can’t hear you!!!
I love that you’ve named your bike. My road bike is Little Blue (a la Finding Nemo). I’ve yet to name my mountain bike, we’re still getting to know each other!

I raced this weekend & I PR’ed. I am a little too heavy to wear a full on bikini, I wear the tankinis where it covers my tummy, but if I went down a size or 2, I would wear a smaller 2 piece. I had a super cute one when I was a size 12 & loved it. It is not super hot in Boise, maybe 70’s most of this week. Our weather is all over the place.

Way to go on the bikini. Of course you should wear it! I only own bikinis. One pieces look funny on me and I don’t feel good in them. I need to go shopping for a new swimsuit soon. All of mine are getting old and stretched out. Not hot here in Seattle. In the 50’s and cloudy:( Good for running I guess:)

Your fifth grade bikini sounds awesome. I’d totally rock something like that now.

The weather here was insane too, but I did race and it felt like death. Awesome times.

GET IN THAT BIKINI!!! You’ve totally earned it.

It is DREADFUL here in NY. I ran for the first time since my half – and want to die during a 3-mile run Saturday. Now I am sitting here soaking in the AC.

Looks like a great weekend and cheers to a good BBQ!!!

It was really hot here too!! My husband and I did a 10 miler (training run) on Sunday and I wanted to die. I was so hot that it was definitely a “slog” fest.

That lemon pound cake looks AMAZING!!

love me some lemon pound cake! it was rather sizzlin here this weekend wasn’t it? ran the sf10 on saturday and it wasn’t too bad in the morning but was way too windy for my liking. i haven’t bought a swimsuit in about 6 years, when i was in my early 20’s…it’s probably time to buy a more age appropriate suit.

Swimsuit shopping is its own special kind of hell! Might call for cocktails ๐Ÿ™‚

Wear that bikini! Cannot remember the last time I was in one, but if my abs and I were better friends I’d sport one!

    Sounds like a great weekend!

You are awesome for getting a bikini!! I have a two piece but the top is long. I’m in great shape but that 10 lb boy I had really did a number on me. I love the way I look but not sure everyone else at the pool will HAHAHAHA!

It was blazing hot here too! I started my run Sat morning at 6 am and 8 miles I was slimy and gross in ways I hadn’t been in a long time. I was running fast for me and that didn’t help either. Yuck. The fun part is that the high for my trail half this Sat is suppose to be 70! High five!

That looks like a great weekend! I love ribs! All 8 million calories of them! It was actually in the 50s the entire weekend here, but it was great running weather and gardening weather, although not as great for laying out in a bikini!

Ooh, ribs! My husband would LOVE you! Yes- it’s sizzling here too, and unfortunately, I did attempt to race… lesson learned. ๐Ÿ™‚ I need to go swimsuit shopping (sans kiddo) soon! I’m impressed you got a bikini! I definitely need to update my full swimsuit for pool time at the kids pool all summer, and might look into a bikini as well…

That pound cake looks really yummy! That’s a really cute bikini. You should definitely sport it this summer!

Dang girlie, if you even LOOKED at a bikini, then you’re doing 4000% better in body image and weight than I am. I seems to keep gaining. Soooo frustrating!

You are a brave girl to make something for guests you’ve never made before, but you aren’t kitchen retarded like me. Glad they turned out heavenly and yeah, that pound cake … my mouth is seriously watering! Damn you! (hahah)

I love bikinis. As someone that isn’t the same size on top as on the bottom, I’m pretty stoked about the mix-and-match options available today. ๐Ÿ™‚ I went backpacking at Pictured Rocks for a bunch of the weekend.

No bikinis for me ever again. But WAY TO GO to you! Rock it girl! I can’t even really rock a tankini successfully – My boob size and my belly size don’t exactly match up.

Ribs? LPC? Red velvet cupcakes? Now I am starving! ๐Ÿ™‚

You’ll have to let us know if you break out the bikini! I last wore a bikini on my honeymoon seven years ago. It was black, cute and from Target. I still have it, but it may never see the outside of my dresser drawer again. My belly looks like I’m still about two months pregnant with twins–blech. I do have a cute tankini from Athleta now. It’s the first bathing suit I’ve liked post-pregnancy.

It’s so dang hot here that I should be wearing bikinis everywhere. I have the same problem that my belly has not seen sunlight since I used to run around in the yard in my underwear when I was five. I did buy a clearance one last year to wear as lingerie because I thought it was funny (it was a little gangsta). Totally TMI, but I wondered why I hadn’t thought of that before last year.

I think a bikini is probably exactly what the doctor ordered for your vitamin D deficiency. So much more skin exposure to help produce all that lovely vitamin D.

The cake looked REALLY good. I bet that last bit is gone now.

No pics of the ribs? You might have to turn your blogger card in over that one :-). I love bbq ribs.

It was a hot one here in St. Louis this weekend too. I wore my hr strap for the first time in forever to make sure I didn’t overdue it.

Aw, come on, don’t tell me I’m the only pasty white girl out there who dares blind any onlookers who dare to gaze ๐Ÿ™‚

    Tan is overrated, anyway!

You go girl! That bikini is too pretty to let just sit in a drawer! Who cares about a pale belly? I wear my bikini with my runner’s tan proudly! Pasty upper thighs blinding the world!

Matt has been on my case about learning to make ribs. I have been dragging my ass seeing as how i don’t eat them myself. I own bikinis, but seeing as i am terrified of water, they rarely ever get worn. They mostly sit in a drawer and remind me not to eat too much ๐Ÿ™‚

I do not own a bikini, and can’t remember when I ever did! LOL! No racing here, but I did have a friend visit me from across the country. ๐Ÿ™‚

You so rock for buying a bikini! Too many cupcakes, and too much of a runner’s body, prevent me from even considering a bikini. In fact, just the thought of having to try on a bikini makes me want 3 slices of your Lemon Poppyseed cake! ๐Ÿ™‚
