Weekend Wrap-Up

March 18, 2013

  • Monday: Yoga, upper body weights
  • Tuesday: 4 miles, 4x800m
  • Wednesday: Full body weights
  • Thursday: 6 mile progression run, corework
  • Friday: Endurance spin class, Upper body weights
  • Saturday: rest
  • Sunday: 12 miles, family swim

A decent week. I got all of my workouts in, although Tuesday’s speed work should have been 6x800m. Volunteer obligations I signed up for at the beginning of the school year are coming back to haunt me. I kept fall relatively free so I could focus on marathon training and now I’m paying the price.

We got new bikes in the cycle studio. With computers. So now I know what kind of watts I’m putting out.  Our instructor will tell us what HR zone to be in then estimate the wattage we’re most likely putting out. Mine is significantly higher. I’m guessing it’s my runner’s heart that is making this possible? Experienced cyclists? Care to chime in?

Winter came late to these parts and now refuses to release it’s icy grip. While not horribly cold (26), I could’ve done without the wind on yesterday’s long run. Not complaining though, the oppressive  heat/humidity will back soon enough. I also realized I am severely deficient in green cold-weather gear. Oops. I kind of feel like a doof for not doing a St. Patty’s Day race. There weren’t any close by, those were last weekend when we were out of town. Plus our delayed onset winter has left me a tad gun shy.

I did make it out to our brand spanking new Whole Foods and Road Runner Sports. The Whole Foods is spacious and fabulous.

The RRS is smaller than others I’ve been to but nicely merchandised, mostly with their private label stuff, which I’ve never tried. Have you tried RRS  gear? The greeter gave me her whole infomercial. I wish she’d have asked if I’d shopped RRS before because it was old news to me. Ok I’m being grumpy. Like I said before, it’s no Athleta, but it’s nice to have another running store in the hood!

What was fun for you this weekend? Did you race?

There’s no RRS near me, only regular sporting goods stores but I have a feeling that just a regular running store would do well!

Nice job on your workouts!! My weekend was gloriously lazy. I was gone for the last two, so I decided to live it up this weekend and do just about nothing. It was fantastic.

A new running store is always a good thing! I just like the way they *smell.* Mmmm….new shoes….

My race was sucky, but the weekend was good. Who can complain when you’re in a beautiful canyon and your friends are with you?

I do like RSS gear though I do dread going to the store but kinda of wish there was one closer to me. Closest is Naperville and there are 3 other running independent stores before I hit that one!

My weekend was filled with sports – I swear hockey season never ends!
Always good to have a new running sore near by – never tried RSS gear.

I wish we had a Whole Foods!! I like Road Runner Sports OK. We only have Dick’s (not just running, obviously) and a small local running store here.

I wish our RRS was closer. Haven’t tried their brand, but have gotten other gear there. Hope the weather improves:)

I don’t have a RRS or Whole Foods anywhere near here. The only thing my town could use is a Dairy Queen. 🙂 Ran a long run this weekend. Can’t believe I have two more big long runs and then I taper. Eek.

Great you got that long run in. I did 8X800m this past week too and they hurt. lol. RRS sounds cool, and I wish there was a whole foods near where I live. Waaaaa!

That’s an awesome week of workouts! Are you saying your wattage is significantly higher than where she estimates it should be at that particular heart rate? Yes, probably from running- or overall fitness. Be proud that you’re so fit! 🙂

Congrats on a great week! I did not race this weekend but was wishing that I was! I ran 17.5 miles on Saturday and just sat back and listened to everyone else talk about their races which is just as exciting to me! Lots of new shiny PR’s out there!

ohhhh….LOVE the power meters on the bike. I’m betting your cardio fitness helps a ton. And it’s all about power to weight ratio. For example, my field test power is 175 and my threshold power is 157 and I weigh 106lbs – so my pwr/weight ratio is 3.64/3.29 I’m an average cyclist in Boulder. Here’s a website that has a calculator. http://www.americanroadcycling.org/TheBook/PowerToWeightCalculator.aspx?frm=img

and yes i raced a half marathon this past weekend and i’m tired!

You need some spring Athleta-wear :).

There’s an RRS North Denver so I haven’t been there more than once. I just ordered some shorts from them though b/c I got a gift card for xmas. I hope they fit cuz I don’t want to drive to North Denver. Lazy.

I enjoyed lots of friends in NYC this weekend and some of my favorites places, spaces and foods. So fun. I also had a very strong, fun, positive run in the NYC half! Running for Alexandra’s Playground helped me keep my focus in the last few miles! (I have tried RRS clothes. I find them OK to better than OK but not awesome!)

Your watts could be higher for a numbr of reasons, running does help with bike fitness, your runners heart helps there. The higher watts is primary from power, so all the weights you lift, running hill repeats all help with higher watts on the bike

I didn’t do any St. Patty’s runs either…And I felt like a bum when I started seeing race pics on facebook showing up!

I like RRS for the VIP thing is you join. Great for discounts & return policy! Our WF is huge – I could spend forever in there! Wish I had the $$ to buy!:)

LOL. I haven’t tried the RRS gear but I would be annoyed with the spiel too! We checked out the new WF on Thursday. And stocked up on vegan chocolate. Ha ha.

I spend entirely too much time in Whole Foods. In fact, now that you’ve brought it up, I think I will head over there for lunch 🙂

I used to wear a lot of RRS shorts, but that was ages ago. Haven’t worn them in awhile (not sure why).

I completely empathize with the volunteer business, in fact I need to leave right now and help with the art class! Nice week of workouts!

Oooh, those bikes look quite fancy! Just another stat for me to examine while I workout! I’ve never shopped at RRS, but I’ve heard a ton of people talk about it. I’m glad you have more running apparel in your neighborhood!

  24. Char says

When are you going to learn that volunteering is only a good idea at the time that you make the commitment. It always comes back tp bite you on the bum at some point.

    March 19, 2013 at 5:05 pm

Boy, your winter really IS hanging on, isn’t it?! I bet you were looking at those RRS clothes thinking…when will it be my turn to wear shorts? I have no answers for the bike, but I KNOW i am less efficient than I should be and it feels like hard work, but never as much fun as running. Certainly calorie burning though!!

Great week! I did get in a five mile practice run. My fastest run yet.

    I’ve never tried RRS before.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
