5 Things I’m Looking Forward To

January 10, 2014

Hills! Ok you know hills and I are not friends. But today’s ‘speed’ workout is about charging up hills. So I’m going to be a good sport and get charging….as soon as morning rush traffic clears…and maybe some fog…probably need some road salt in my fuel belt too…

Testing a new shoe: The best Swedish innovation since ABBA will be hitting my feet soon: The Airia One is a biomechanically optimized shoe that helps you run faster. I am all about faster. Cannot wait to give these a whirl (and getting some serious air like the dude in the pic).

nuts

Nuts! I went into the Elf4Health Challenge hoping to meet some new blogger friends and stay somewhat on track leading into the holidays. Never in a million years did I think I had a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. But I did. I didn’t pay much attention to what the prizes even were. But now they’re rolling in. Yesterday was a cavalcade of nuts from the Almond Board of California. Suffice it to say things will be getting very nutty up in here so stay tuned for some recipes. There may even an almond-butter making party in the works.

Figure Skating Nationals: It’s been going on all week but the senior ladies final is this weekend. It’s like the Super Bowl to me. You can take the old bag out of skating but you can’t take skating out of the old bag. I’ll be glued to the coverage like Torville on Dean. I’m proud to say we’ve got 2 couples competing in the Junior Pairs division and Gracie Gold will always be ‘mine’ even though she recently left our rink and went to Colorado. Agnes Z. will always be ‘mine’ too. Gosh, kind of possessive, aren’t I? Honestly I’ll be happy with whatever the outcome is. Get ready Sochi, the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating team will be a strong one!
Valentine’s Day: Alright I am not looking forward to this one, although I did sign up for some sort of ‘love dash’. I just made peace with having Christmas over. No way can I get my head around V-Day yet….even though stores are filled with the stuff.

What are you looking forward to, or not? What sport are you most passionate about? What would you do with a motherlode of almonds?

I feel the same way about swimming – haven’t done it competitively in FOREVER, but still love to follow it. I guess it’s part of our DNA ๐Ÿ™‚

So cool that you won the ElfChallenge. It’s always fun to win something when you weren’t expecting it.

    Now, go attack those hills!

I’m excited to watch the skating this weekend, too. Always fun, especially if you understand it a bit (although I’ve never understood the newer scoring system–give me the 5.whatevers back!). Seriously jealous of your nut influx!

Congrats on the Almond win! I love them so much! I think the new “ABBA” shoes seem interesting. I am curious to see what you think of those.

Shoes that will help you go faster? Can’t wait to hear what you think of those. I’m looking forward to the skating too – happening right in my backyard!

Looking forward to three straight weekends of fun running and biking adventures with friends.

Not looking forward to: going back to school on Monday (even though I had an entire extra week of break). It’ll be good to be back once I’m there, it’s just the going back that is rough.

And I’m SO jealous of your almond score. Love those things!!

I truly hate hills too but I’ve been diligently running a hill session every week for the last month. And even though I will always hate hills, those sessions have given me enormous satisfaction because I’m doing something that’s hard for me.

So exciting about your ice skaters being at nationals. It adds an extra interest to the event. I hope they all do well.

Hills are gonna make ya sooo wicked fast, Louise. Way to go after them….after your coffee, the snow plows have been through, soap operas watched… ๐Ÿ™‚

There is nothing more fun than unexpectedly getting a windfall of prizes! Awesome!!
I don’t run, but my friend Allie says that doing hills every day gives her power when she is in a race. When she hits hills in a race she just goes and leaves everyone else in the dust. You’ll be just like that!! BAM!! –Lisa

I used to skate too…through elementary school. I traded the skates for gymnastics in 6th grade. What a mistake.

My sport of choice is rowing. I could watch and talk rowing ALL DAY LONG. Some people think it’s super boring. They are wrong.

I’m also a hill hater. Good for you for tackling them & yes, I do think you need to run with salt in your fule belt!

I’m getting into my treadmill for controlled hill workouts – and I’m loving it! Of course my basement is like an inferno – so that part is gross! As for the almonds,I just met someone who does 100 mile bike rides. He brings waffles that he makes with almond meal. He uses the meal to replace some of the flour – I’m gonna try it!

What am I looking forward to are the ski jumping competitions and the downhill skiing as well. And the cross country skiing. I used to cross country ski, but never competitively. Never gone downhill skiing!
Enjoy those hills. I always loved running them…or power walking them…or crawling up them…
    Almonds? Make some almond biscotti!!
What am I looking forward to athletically? Getting in the rollers and them out on my bike once there’s enough light during the week and also no snow in the ground on the weekends.

I am right there with ya on figure skating, I absolutely love watching it! I am an Olympics addict, when they start, I am glued to the T.V. all evening long, it’s just so incredible to watch!
Hope you had fun with those hills! I love hills too, I prefer hilly race courses to flat any day, maybe it’s because I’m from Utah and we don’t really have anything flat here:) But I love them:)

Wow! Congrats on winning all those nuts! I had been thinking about going ice skating but don’t want to chance it since I have a half coming up in 40 days!

I am a total Midwestern flatlander and I hate hills like I can’t even begin to express. I will look at race courses and decide not to run a race simply because it’s got hills. When I am racing, the flatter the course, the better. But I do have to admit that hill-training is very effective. Kudos to you for embracing hills!

Those Airia shoes sound intriguing! I am excited to hear what you think of them!

  28. Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says

Haha motherload of almonds! I would just eat them, all of them.

I don’t really like Valentine’s day either, but a theme race sounds fun!!
