February Runfessions

February 19, 2014

I had to take a degree of incline off to finish my last 2 pace intervals yesterday. Arghhh. Can you say pansy? I still had it at 1 so maybe a smallish pansy?

I fear the Brooks trail shoes I was so happy to get such a good deal on will not be able to handle runs over 8 miles or so. I wore them for Sunday’s snowy beast (beast=10 miler) and my feet felt like ground beef. Anybody have a trail shoe recommendation? Should I stick with the same brand as my regular running shoes?

5dollarmedalI’m not totally fixated on medals yet when the Lincoln Presidential Half unveiled this year’s new $5 bill medal, I cried in my Nuun a little. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very cool.

pennymedal

But I really wanted the giant penny.

I threaten the kids that I’m going out for the next Olympic team almost everyday. First it was curling, then biathlon, then skeleton, followed by Bobsled (surely I could push the damn thing then tuck in back behind the driver, right?). Not super-G though or any of that slopestyle or snowboard cross nonsense. That shizz terrifies me.

What winter Olympic sport would you most want to do?

I’m very new to the world of trail running, so no recommendations for you there. If I had no fear and all the skills in the world, I’d love to be skiing at the Olympics!

    Curling! I love it!

I am obsessed with the luge. I did the bobsled in Vail many years ago, and it was awesome! In my dreams, I am a figure skater and star in The Cutting Edge! ;)-Ashley

I’d say skiing, but I’m a terrible skiier, so I have no idea really.

Easy….slalom skiing. You’re doing skeleton and other things scare you????

If I had any guts at all, I would be ALL OVER the snowboard cross. I just absolutely love watching it–looks like so much fun!

I runfessed on my post today about hitting the road a bit too early. Dummy!

I’d love speed skating! I love to go fast.

IDK–that medal might be a deal breaker….I would have wanted the giant penny as well!!

If I could ice skate at all, I would totally love to do speed skating or figure skating.

It’s been my experience that trail shoes can ONLY be worn on the trail (as in technical, rocky, and not smooth), or else they feel awful. That rock plate they put in them does NOT work on smooth trails or roads, because it makes the ride way too stiff. For me, at least. Having said that, I freaking LOVE the Mizuno EVO Ferus. It’s the same shoe as the EVO Cursoris, but with that stiffer bottom. Love it!

Ice skating/dancing. I can’t fathom rocketing down slopes or chutes (whatever they call the track for the bobsleds or luge)

Pahla I use trail shoes to run on about a 3″ thick layer of permasnow/ice. There is zero bare pavement and it is not smooth At. All. In previous years I’ve gone up to 20 miles in a Nike Pegasus trail shoe with better results than the Brooks. But there must be something better out there. I am a Mizuno girl afterall…

The penny medal is definitely better.

I’d love to have the skills for freestyle skiing.

I really haven’t been following the Olympics lately (I am more of a summer games fan), but I think the bobsled would be AWESOME!

I honestly didn’t even know that they made specific trail running shoes. Seriously, where have I been?

And thanks for your kind words about going back to work:) I am super proud of my freezer stash (I know you can appreciate that)! I love counting up the bags:)

I would be bummed about not getting the penny, too!

Is there a trail version of your normal shoe? That is what I use for my trail shoes ๐Ÿ™‚

I would try biathlon or some crazy snowboarding thing even though I think it would be really bad for me to have both legs locked in to one thing.

  18. Kim says

I would want to do ice dancing but since I can’t even ice skate (or dance for that matter) I guess that’s out. Pretty much the winter Olympics are out for me because they all involve either snow or ice and I try to avoid both of those!!
I just saw those medals on someone else’s blog and think that both of them are pretty awesome!!

  19. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

That Snowboard Cross is crazy! But I gotta admit that’s the one I’d want to try ๐Ÿ™‚

I was watching an interview about bobsled athletes yesterday. One of our girls had to put on ten kilos to become a better, stronger pusher. So that event has been crossed off my list of potentials. There’s no way I want to put on that much weight. It’d mean having to buy a whole new wardrobe and I really HATE shopping.

Char I’m a champ at adding kilos so no sweat there. Heck I’m probably already packing plenty.

I would want to do biathlon, but I can’t aim!

I would be bummed about the $5 bill medal, too! That giant penny is one of the coolest medals I’ve ever seen! Bummer also to hear further details about how those Brooks are not working out for you. Grrrrr!!!

I would love to be an ice dancer! BTW – a friend posted on FB that she told her kid she wanted to be a luger, and her kid responded, “Really? Why wouldn’t you want to be a winner?” Hilarious!!!

Figure Skating. I’m so in awe. Wow.

  25. Lisa says

    February 19, 2014 at 6:48 pm

I think I could be the broomer (or whatever it is called) in curling. But I really like biathlon. Although I would suck at it because I can’t shoot or ski. But I wish I could. Combining those two together is bad@ass

  26. Carla says

    February 19, 2014 at 9:03 pm

The giant penny is pretty cool. I haven’t done any run training in awhile with being sick and all. Perhaps the streets will just slide under my feet like I’m skating. LOL

  27. Jill says

Which trail shoe did you get from Brooks? \

  28. Jamie @ couchtoironwoman says

    February 21, 2014 at 12:10 pm

I wear Saucony Peregrines, but I’m sure trail shoes are individual just like road shoes. Hopefully you find something that works!

And the giant penny would have been really cool!

hmm. i got the same trail shoes and are just getting started..so hopefully they are okay for me?? I thought the same thing about that medal when I saw it on their fb…and I would want to ice skate ๐Ÿ™‚ they all look so graceful!
