Currently and a Winner

July 22, 2014

Books: Ha! None. Can’t even keep up with my Runner’s World mags.

marathon trail

Running Path: I’ve been back on a route I save specifically for marathon training. It’s mostly roads/path but there’s a bit of trail too.

Non-Running Workout: I’m kind of all over the place with cross-training but let’s say swimming, now that I’m officially a swimmer.

applecarrotlemon

Drink: Apple/carrot/lemon/turmeric juice. I had this at the Mariano’s juice bar awhile back and loved it. Since then, they haven’t had it whenever I go and they’re unable to make it specially for me–what’s up with that?? Soooo I pulled out the Caveman’s Ninja and made it myself. Recipe is here.

pig cake

Excitement: Thing 2 turns 9 next week. Where has my baby gone? Again this year she’s requested the infamous pig-in-mud cake, which requires about 87 Kit Kats to make. I’d better get on it.

Garden Item: It’s been a tough year and my garden has been like a food truck for wildlife, but we’re getting a few things anyway: basil, a few zucchini, cilantro, one tomato and the beginnings of butternut squash. But where are the pumpkins??

TV: Still hanging with The Bachelorette, although I think the entire season has been weak. I have a knack for picking (to stay) the exact guys she sends home. I really liked Chris the farmer. I think Josh will win, which means Nick probably will.

crisp

Indulgence: I’m finding these Raisin Crisps from Mariano’s quite irresistible. I’m not quite sure if you’re supposed to eat them plain, with, butter, cheese, or what but I like them just as they are with coffee or tea….a little too much.

Pet Peeve: Stores whose regular prices are totally jacked up so they can have perpetual “sales” to the tune of 40-60% off. This especially gets to me when they’re kids’ stores like Justice and Abercrombie. Can we just be more reasonable from the get-go?

Mood: Apprehensive. I feel like summer is slipping away faster and faster and I’m beginning to stress about fitting in all the fun stuff we’d planned. Ugh. Once the daylight starts fading noticeably I’ll really be bummed. Don’t tell me it is. I’m in denial.

I hear you on summer slipping away. My garden is actually not a food truck for wildlife this year. It’s kind of nice!

Omg I love that cake! How fun!

I’m not seeing a recipe for the smoothie at that link, just a thing about using lemons instead of salt. The smoothie looks like a good one, though, and a friend of mine is challenging me to eat a high raw diet for a while so it would be a good recipe for now. I hear ya about summer slipping away, I think my garden is going faster than usual due to some hot weather here so it makes it seem even more like that. My tall Oriental hybrid lilies are in full bloom right now, the second peak of my garden, and then it will feel like high summer is over. I have deer and rabbits and a chipmunk so I’m glad that I’m only trying to grow flowers.

Looks like a nice tree tunnel to run down! I can see why she wants that cake!

I definitely feel like summer is slipping away, too – especially since I head back to work in a few weeks. Eek!

    That cake? TO DIE FOR!

That cake is amazing! I never get more creative than cupcakes otherwise it’s off to the bakery I go 🙂 I’m also in denial about how fast summer’s going by – we still have too much on our summer bucket list!

Bummer on the reading – I’ve actually been reading several books. I’m beyond sad that the boys start school 3 weeks from tomorrow – I can’t even believe how fast summer has gone!!

Tough, emotional day for me…as you know. Didn’t get my run in today, barely got through the day at work. Then got into with my sister. I’m actually going up to read…I’m reading The Sweet Hereafter, which is not an upper, pretty intense. But I like to lose myself in books.

Yep, summer is going tooo fast! I’ve got a whole week off starting Thursday…looking forward to the break.

Nine! I love that Thing 2 asks for the same cake. It might be her birthday tradition.

I heard marigolds make the animals go away and you should plant those around the garden. Not sure if it’s true or not since I don’t garden.

That Kit Kat cake looks like something DW would make. Email the recipe please 🙂

The juice sounds intriguing. I’m surprised they wouldn’t make it for you. Hmmm…
In the meantime, what the heck is that cake all about? You’re a great mom!

omg yay! So glad i’m playing blog catch up today 🙂 i’m on the plane on the way to barcelona as we speak! i feel like i’ve had no time for TV, but have squeezed in a few orange in the new black and nurse jackie episodes. as excited as I am about this trip, i can’t wait for the month of August. ALL the weekends are at HOME!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
