Three Things Thursday + One

August 21, 2014

1. Back to School. The kids went back yesterday, and, as much as I hate to see summer break come to an end, it needed to be done I guess. The bickering was starting. And too much computer time.

2. Marathon Training. I’m in week 6 of New York City Marathon training. My flight and hotel are booked. Ferry and gear check options made. We’re still up in the air on who, if anyone (kids? Caveman?) is coming with me. Although my long runs aren’t terrribly long yet (“only” 14 miles), I can definitely feel my endurance increasing. Hay is going into the barn! This week the heat is back and today t’storms are throwing a kink in my plan of a trail run followed by swim. Aaand just because it’s going to be in the 90’s this weekend, I’m racing. Of course I am.

squash from garden

3. Garden: Unlike last year when pumpkins and tomatoes went gangbusters, this year I  have zero pumpkins and just one tomato so far. But holy bell peppers and winter squash Batman!

superfruit

4. Detox. I like to think I’m a fairly healthy eater. But sometimes I fall victim to too much of a good thing, like these: Super Fruits + Dark Chocolate = all good, right? Um not when you eat way more than the 1/4C serving size, which itself is 180 calories and 21g sugar. Plus I didn’t do my body any favors with almost nightly visits to the local frozen custard stand this summer. Treats aren’t treats when you’re eating them regularly, right? So next month I’m joining Laura for a 21-day reset. There’ll be a private Facebook group for accountability and meal plans. Join us! Details on the 21-Day Reset are here.

I should be joining that detox, too, after my European treats–but I sure did enjoy them while they lasted!

I’m glad things are moving forward with NY. 14 miles is an awesome place to be right now. Good luck this weekend!

Hooray for back to school – hope it is a great year for the girls!!!
Sounds like marathon training is going well (minus the storms and heat:)!!!
I should probably do a detox – lately I’m not thrilled with my “extra flesh” around my middle!!!

Detoxes always sound good on paper, but I’ve never gotten all the way through one

I’m with you on the need for school to start – we’ve got one more week here. 14 miles sounds great! Good luck this weekend!

Good luck with the detox. I am excited to hear about your NYC Marathon training and read your recap. It’s my favorite race in the whole world! 🙂

Thanks for the tip on the detox. I signed up. I need to get on track for NYC, too!! Good stuff! (And I knew I liked Pete for a reason ;)) I have 16 this week on my schedule. Cue the Wonder Twins…Form of… “a puddle”

Your squash looks AMAZING!!! So bountiful, especially with fall just around the corner!

YES on Super Fruits plus Dark Chocolate! I would probably eat the entire bag in a day!

So glad you can join us, Marcia. Thanks for the share!

I’ve always thought “a serving” is ONE bag? That’s how I always eat everything.

Great job raking up those miles, Louise. I’d about kill to run 14 miles without stopping to whine a little right now. But I don’t really have anything on my plate to make myself build…maybe now that Ryan’s gone and the woe-is-me can cease (well, at least lessen ;)).

    xo

Wait, there is no such thing as a daily treat??? 🙁 I have been terrible and going to the store for a “daily treat” (BAG of candy)… Candy is not cheap these days, esp when you are spending $5 on a bag a day, haha. I am interested to hear the guidelines of the reset!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
