NYCM Training and Week 2 Reset

September 23, 2014

Cutback week is complete! Here’s how it went:
Monday: Hot vinyasa flow yoga
Tuesday: Run 4 miles, upper body strength/core
Wednesday: 7 miles, 4@tempo pace. Ouch.
Thursday: Bike 20 miles. Lower body strength/core
Friday: Run 3 miles.
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 12 miles

Overall a solid, uneventful week. The low mileage felt odd but good.

reset

Week 2 of Laura’s 21-Day Reset.
It hasn’t been total perfection, but I feel like I am chugging right along. I can do this. I AM doing this. Sugar cravings are gone, but sometimes the habitual yearning for a treat is still there. I’m hard-wired I guess. I feel great. Like I told you last week, I’m less sore and recovering from tough workouts faster. The Caveman has noticed I look thinner although it’s only 2.5 lbs. He’s also noticed my complexion is clearer….brighter. I can see it too.

kombucha
The drawback is I’m still not eating enough, as I am physically hungry a lot. Still need to do better with planning meals. Overall little-to-no snacking is happening here. Totally dodged a bullet Thursday night when we went to a charity event promising heavy hors d’oeuvres/drinks/dessert and a concert. We got downtown early so stopped at Whole Foods to kill time with some kombucha. Alas when we arrived at the party, foodservice was finito! I’ll admit by that time I was HANGRY! We ended up running across the street to a mini-mart where I scrounged up a Tanka Bar and a Kind Bar for dinner. I didn’t fully realize how dramatic the reset was on my belly fat until I put on my fuel belt for Sunday’s long run. It’s fitting MUCH looser.

Now that we’re in the final week, I need to hang tough and not get sloppy. This is a lifestyle I’d like to continue for the long haul, not just a 3-week diet.

What are you training for? How’d your training go last week?

Looks like your training is going better than mine. I’m training for my 5th half marathon, but this is my first while working FT and first after having a child. I started week 5 strong, but fell off. Now just having a hard time getting back on the wagon.

I didn’t lose any weight – maybe a pound or so. However, my clothes seem looser and the husband says I “feel trim” so that’s something. I have been starving this whole time. I have eaten SO MANY nuts. I guess 2 weeks of back to back 20 milers did not help. The funny thing is, I don’t feel awesome. I just feel ok. I am truly sugar powered. LOL!

Not training for anything, but starting to get consistent weeks in base-building, which will continue through winter (though with the forecast for another cold one, wish I had a treadmill).

    Great week!

The cutback weeks really do feel odd sometimes, but I feel so much better after them for sure.

Training for my first full, but also have a half coming up in about 5 weeks. I’ll be very happy for a cutback week ๐Ÿ˜‰

jealous of your hot vinyasa yoga class! It’s my favorite type of yoga ๐Ÿ™‚ One of our studios in WI just added it and I have yet to give it a try. I’m training for Chicago which is in October. Sometimes a scale back week is completely necessary and bike riding is a great alternative to running. Good luck with the rest of your training & reset!

I just finished the Fox Valley Half with my husband, and have the Naperville half in November…still toying with doing another half in October…but not positive yet.
Great job on your reset plan!

Sounds like a great week! Good job hanging tough with the reset challenge – the no snacking thing would be a tough one for me!

great job! 2.5 pounds doesn’t sound like much but it really is. Clean eating makes such a huge difference and it is wonderful that your skin is brighter too.

I hate being hangry! All willpower would have gone out the window right there for me. Well played on your part.

You’ve been really consistent with the marathon training which should make for an awesome NY!

i can’t wait for NYC! i’m talking to a nutritionist next week to talk about my hangry issues and staying full long enough. eating clean is hard…since lent i’ve definitely had my fair share of cheats, but really, really try to stick to one dessert a week (usually on long run day).

It must be tough training for a marathon and still trying to get enough calories to recover while on this reset. But the results your seeing are great.

Wow! Cutback at your level is so not cutting to me. ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s awesome! I did sign up for another half in April. Even though I haven’t run the first one yet it was a great deal and I’m enjoying having the goal to move me forward.

I really need to try the reset. Sounds like it’s doing wonderful things for you. Other than the being hungry part.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
