Books: None as usual. But I do have a new mag. subscription (surprise) that was too good to pass up. I hadn’t read Oxygen in eons but it’s back and better than before. Even though I have less than zero interest in ever becoming a figure competitor, there’s a ton on clean eating and great strengh workouts too.

fall
Running Path: With NYCM training reaching it’s peak, I’m pretty much everywhere. Tomorrow’s 22 will comprise 5 towns. More important than the actual routes I’m running, knock wood, our weather has been crazy good and cool! The fall colors don’t hurt either.

kombucha
Drink: Thanks to a mega sale at Whole Foods, my kombucha stores are topped up.

chimarathon

Excitement: Tie between Chicago Marathon this weekend, ice skating Regionals and Skate America. Since I got my run coaching certification last winter, my first class of marathon-training peeps will run Chicago on Sunday. I am so proud to say all of them will be toeing the starting line healthy, well-prepared and ready to rock. On the skating front (my other coaching gig) I’ve got a couple of regional champs and many who will be heading to sectionals and probably nationals. Thing 1 is performing in Skate America and begins working with an Olympic choreographer. Needless to say I am thrilled for everyone. My cup runneth over with pride and admiration for everyone who has worked so hard. Aaaand it distracts me from the fact that NYCM is creeping up fast.
squash from garden
Garden Item: Sadly the garden’s done, and except for a few, my tomatoes never really got started. The true stars of the year for me were the winter squash. Plenty of those to last for awhile.
TV: Nada. I think I saw one DWTS then no more. Just can’t get in to it. Tried Blackish too but it’s just not as funny as I thought it could be.

macchiato

Indulgence: Since the 21-day reset, I’m not really indulging. Well there was a slice of pumpkin pie…other than that the new Caramel Macchiato GU is a total hit. I think I’ll be using that and Salted Caramel in NYC.
Pet Peeve: Cigarette smoke. I know smokers have few places they’re allowed to smoke anymore, but getting a whiff when I’m out running is just nasty. Smelling it while running a marathon (Columbus, 2009) is the worst.
Mood: Excited! For everyone racing this weekend! And my skaters!

I got plenty of tomatoes and peppers, but my zuchhini only gave me decent fruit in the past week – my winter squash was almost a total bust though. Weird!

Reading is pretty much all I do lately. I agree that Oxygen is so much better than it had been for awhile.

You have so many exciting things coming up! Congrats to all your students and to you!

    Currently…

Reading: Once a Runner. One of my running friends was shocked I’d never read/heard of it.

    Excitement: My son’s wedding tomorrow

Stalking: weather.com as monsoon season has hit and the wedding is supposed to be outdoors.

Training: busy, busy. Getting consistent with strength training and running trails on weekends in preparation for November’s Skippo 30K.

I was going to try to tune in to Blackish but now perhaps I won’t bother. Have a great weekend, Coach!

I didn’t know you had 22 this weekend! Holy moley! Curious where your run will take you…you can text me if you want to keep it private…

You know, I feel really badly we didn’t get together over the summer. Life got in the way for me. But no excuses. Once you’re done with NYCM, let’s make a plan for something…lunch, maybe?

So exciting about your girl’s skating!!!
In September when I did the Patriot’s Run, there was someone right around the start/finish line smoking – since the loop was just 0.67 miles I smelled their smoke a LOT – not cool!

LOUISE – 22 miles? You go girl! Hope it’s a great run filled with lots of fall-bursting things to look at.

Exciting for your athletes and for skating…wheee.

Was thinking of you with Chicago Marathon this weekend. Maybe one day we can do it together. Or not. 🙂

Our garden is still hanging on, with tomatoes ripening at a slow pace. I have some beets and carrots still in the ground, hoping for a little frost to give them some extra oomph.

Havee you ever thhought about adding a little bit more than jus your articles?
I mean, what you say is valuable and all. But think about if you added ome great images orr videos to give your
posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this website could certainly be
one of the greatest in itts niche. Amazing blog!

I just think it is so awesome that you are coaching running AND skating. After following your blog for a few years now, I have no doubt you are excellent at it! I have my coaching certification, too, but I found I just wasn’t very good at it. I have too little patience – not a good quality in a coach.

And I’m with you on the smoke at a marathon. When I ran the Bataan Death March a few years back, someone was smoking right on the course. One of the soldier/runners threatened to beat the guy. He put the cigarette out 🙂

We’re trying to watch Blackish too, though we’re already behind on our DVR. The first episode wasn’t as funny as I thought it would be so it will probably end up being a dud. And I’m loving the fall colors, I hope that they stick around for a bit longer!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
