It’s Race Week

October 27, 2014

First things first: Week 15 of NYCM training went like this:
Total Miles: 21
Monday: Yoga
Tuesday: 4 miles
Wednesday: Strength/core
Thursday: 6 miles with 1.5 and 1 mile tempo intervals
Friday: 4 miles and strength for legs
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 7 miles hilly

So yeah, it’s race week and I’m feeling remarkably calm. I was stressing more about Thing 1’s performance in Skate America, which was awesome, btw. It’s been an amazing week even at our local rink, because Skate America competitors have been dropping in to practice daily. There’s nothing quite like skating next to the World Champion….I suppose running with Kara or Meb would be comparable.
US Figure Skating

We got to the arena. Holy security Batman. Skate bags and nosy moms were not allowed anywhere near the inner santcum.

mak at skate americaI’m sure I was more nervous than she.

When we arrived, the competition medalists were warming up for the show. I think I love watching athletes practice more than actually perform. It’s fascinating to see what and how they practice….and watch their game face go on. Here’s our home girl Gracie Gold who took third.

Thing 1, along with kids from other area rinks, opened the show representing the future of figure skating. It was so cool they were able to participate in an event like this. I had someone else take pics/video because I wanted to soak it all in. I have yet to see anything Thing 1 took backstage with the stars. It was a late night….waaay past my bedtime.

Back to race week. I’ll chip away at packing, hydrating, Halloween, hydrating and getting kids and dogs to their weekend hangouts. Other than that, I’m excited and ready. Bring it!

Congrats to our weekend racers! What was fun for you this weekend?

Ice skating is something I am not very good at but I also haven’t practiced much. Either way, figure skating is so elegant and graceful – I am pretty sure I couldn’t practice enough to acquire that! And great job to her!

I like how your week includes yoga. that is something I leave out but have been giving some serious thought to lately

I thought of her/you yesterday when I happened upon the competition on TV. Soooo great that she got to participate like that!

Looks like it’s going to be one cool NY marathon this week, which is always better than heat, no?

You’ve inspired me to start back doing yoga at least once per week! Sounds like you had a great week, and your daughter is beautiful!

I hope that you are able to stay calm all week and enjoy every second surrounding your New York marathon this year.

I was so excited about your daughter that I even watched Skate America (my football loving family was not happy with me!). I bet it was an amazing experience for you and Maddie!

    Now onto NYCM!

I don’t know much about anything except that it is hard core. A guy I work with has a daughter with Olympic dreams and they are chasing them.

Enjoy the taper! Looking forward to hearing about NYC.

Will send you your Denver RnR shirt soon :).

Maddie looks like she’s was ready to roll…calm and cool – just like her momma!

Congrats to Thing 1 – that is AWESOME. What a privilege to skate with the champs!

RACE WEEK! I am so excited. I hope you love NYC as much as me – if that is possible.

Last weekend was the husband’s 40th party and it was a blast. Big success. Phew!

Have a great time in NYC. Are you there yet? Is your family going or friends? It should be cool but dry. I should say cold! What a wonderful day it will be!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
