WICW and a WINner

October 15, 2014

WICW. No that’s not a typo. WICW stands for Where I Chafed Wednesday. You can tell it’s marathon season when we’re talking chafe around here.

chafe
One would think that after running marathons for 7 years and counting, I’d have chafing under control. Um, apparently not so much.
Behold my latest lovely:
scab
Looks like a chest hickey, no? Are hickies still a thing? Yeah so this scabby (I swear it looks bigger/crustier irl) was created from the zipper on the top I wore for my 22-miler last weekend. I never felt a thing….until later…ouch! I guess that top won’t be making the trip to NYC. Sheesh.
So tell me: Where’s the weirdest/worst place you’ve ever chafed?

Just the regular places for me, as far as I can remember ๐Ÿ™‚

Ouchies! I hate when chafing happens…it is the WORST! I’ve had to resort to using my daughter’s diaper cream to clear it up, haha!

Ouch, I’ve had one on my chest like that before from a zipper. I had a terrible spot on the back of my ankle from a zipper on pants I will no longer wear without taller socks. But on the upside, nicely done on 22!

Right now I have a huge linear chafing line where my jogbra sits on my chest. Not an unusual spot, but quite large!!! And there are the unmentionable areas too…

Love the acronym! And I’ve had that same one, also from a zipper. Who’d of thought?

I still chafe! Drives me crazy! And the first time I ran an ultra, I chafed in a place I didn’t know was possible. Learned my lesson quickly ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hips mainly. Body glide does the trick, but only if I remember to apply it!

Hahaha…leave it to you to come up with an acronym for chaffing :).

I tend to chaf around the scar of my c-section (it runs up and down, not length-wise since B decided to flip sideways and be a real pill trying to come out!). I always forget to put on Body Glide (because it’s been eternity since I have done a longer run)….ouchie.

During my 50K last year, I chafed in a place where Bodyglide would not have helped! I usually don’t have a problem but I do every now and then with the inner thigh mostly. Lately.

    I love that race sign!

That sign! It has been so long since I rang I don’t even remember. Probably because it wasn’t any weird spot – just the regular heel and zipper.

Impressive looking chafe. That must have really hurt when you hit the shower.

WICW!!! Bwahahahahaha! I never thought you could chafe right there in the middle of your chest! Damn you, zipper!! You poor thing!! It looks really painful! Yikes!! –Lisa

The only time I’ve ever had chafing ended up being more of a hole in my shoulder blade. Sadly, if I would have listened to Chris it wouldn’t have happened. My first time using my camel back (16 miles on tap) – I put it on with just my sports bra (it was hot and that is my preference for running) – Chris said I should put on a shirt. About mile 10 I felt it rubbing – it was BAD!!!

I’ve been chaffing in a couple spots from my HR strap. For my marathon last weekend, I put those square band aids over those spots. Ended up using like 10 of those little square ones.

I was SO worried about chafing on Sunday since I pulled a super rookie move and wore new capris, but the Body Glide apparently helped with that. However, I didn’t anticipate that I would chafe just above my tailbone. My husband actually pointed it out to me. Oops:)

I can totally relate to the chafing! I have gotten it really bad under my arms once when I was wearing arms sleeves and it was raining. I remember I felt like crying when I got in the shower! I have gotten better with putting on body glide any time I feel like there is a chance of chafing!

Hate that. I usually find out I’ve chaffed when I’m in the shower & feel the burn.
I chafe under my arms when I wear a new tank that doesn’t fit perfectly or on my back from a sport bra- ICK.

I chaffed right under my heart rate monitor. …..I guess not really a weird place, probably to be expected, but I was NOT expecting it!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
