Runfessions

November 20, 2014

It’s that time once again! Time to air it all out and come clean. I usually post my Runfessions on the last Friday of the month but with Black Friday next week, who know? So here they are a little early. Feel free to join me and tag me. I promise you’ll feel better.
Runfessions
Yesterday I set out to do a frozen fish (fish=5ish miles in my world). I even waited til it warmed up to 20 degrees. But oh mama it was windy. An icy biting wind that sent me seeking shelter on trails. To no avail though. I bagged the run after 3 miles and called it good. That’s what happens when you’re not training for anything.

I realized I’m a bit of a headband snob. My winter running headbands are all fancy brands and all but one are tired old black.

headband

So on a recent Tarjay trip I picked up a few colorful ones to spice things up. Gotta love how relatively inexpensive their Champion stuff is and the quality is great.

I’m kind of bummed there is no finish line photo of me in NYC. There’s one of me in the homestretch and I’m even smiling, but still, not the finish. I probably wouldn’t have bought it anyway.

I’ve been looking up the bib number of those around me on the NYCM race pics to see if they ended up finishing near me…or if they kicked my behind…or vice versa.

I take comfort in the fact that even the elites struggled with the wind at NYCM.

I still haven’t signed up for anything next year. Although I’ve got a trifecta of turkey trots next week. I need to run off the crazy.

I’m thinking 2015 will be the year I finally tri…maybe…just keep swimming…

I’m stressing about Thanksgiving and Hurricane MIL even though so far I’ve got things well under control.
Winter Squash Soup wChipotle Peppers & Cream
I made this Winter Squash Soup with Chipotle Peppers and Cream as a trial dish for Thanksgiving. It’s delicious in a spicy way. Hurricane MIL loathes spicy food. This may be perfect.

Ok your turn, share your runfession in a comment or post it and tag me. What inexpensive workout gear do you swear by? Are you turkey trotting? Did you enter my giveaway?

I’m picky about headwear too … well any of my running gear, for that matter ๐Ÿ˜‰ I usually end up in fleece hats by winter and have a man’s Nike black one that is larger than the women’s sizes so it will cover more. I don’t even have a big head, but I want my ears covered completely and no hat ride up, haha I haven’t signed up for anything in 2015 yet either. I’m waiting a bit longer to see how winter training goes before committing. Hopefully a 26.2 will happen. It’s too bad you didn’t get a NYCM finish line pic, but I’m sure the finish and medal make it worth it all ๐Ÿ™‚ Cheers!

Christina I agree! Many women’s hats seem too small. What’s up with that?

Haha on the spicy soup! When my MIL was alive she used to load her dishes up with butter. I know she did just to bug me…but oh, did I suffer when I ate her food. She also used to bring her own butter to restaurants when we went out to eat. A little quirky?

I don’t blame you for stopping at 3 miles in that weather! I know I am going to struggle this winter to run in the cold if I don’t have a race that I am training for.

I’m seriously struggling with the cold so 3 miles sounds about right.
I joined you in runfessions on my blog today ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m going to let you let go of the guilt about cutting it short: you are still in recovery mode, so it’s all good!

I guess my runfessions are crosstrainingfessions: I’ve hardly run in the past 3 weeks due to my hip, but I am having a very tough time motivating my way through cross training. I’m doing it, but barely. Thankfully the hip is looking better so I can get back to what I love!

And speaking of love–that soup sounds amazing!

I’m seriously considering doing some races next year – who knows, it might be the inspiration I need to run more consistently.

I would love to Turkey Trot, but I am the only person cooking this year, so I won’t have time. On another note, I sweat by cutting the toe off of a cheap pair of tube socks and use them as arm warmers– best 99 cents you’ll ever spend.

I’m cracking up about the spicy soup being perfect because MIL doesn’t like spicy:) I know you will do great next week – and there is always running!!!
Target is my favorite store for workout stuff.

I am just the opposite with headwear. I run in whatever hat I can find. I do have two nicer ones, both bright, but I just rotate through them. I want to get some headbands, though, for when my ears are cold but I get hot with a hat. I mean, with the weather in the teens, I haven’t had to worry about it but, ya know.

I am not turkey trotting. We decided it was too much of a hassle and traffic headache to get to arrange childcare and get to downtown Cincinnati (we’re visiting fam). I’m going to give Miles a bag of candy and pop him in front of my grandma’s TV, and we’ll run on our own. #motheroftheyear

Winter squash soup looks and sounds really good. I like the purple headband. There was a time when I realized most of the stuff in my closet was black so I had to incorporate some color too.

Frozen fish! Love it! Thats funny! I wish I ran more 5 milers so I could say that now ๐Ÿ˜› I know what you mean about struggling without a goal. Even though I am running over an hour every day, I feel lost without a goal till the london marathon in april. I am hoping I can get something set up soon…..I guess that is my runfession too!

    That soup sounds lovely!

I think you’ve earned the right to cut a few runs short post-NYCM. Just how long you can use that as an excuse, though, would be up for debate. Four weeks? Six weeks? Eight weeks? Or just until the weather becomes a bit nicer – and that may be a fair few months.

I feel like you and I need to text back and forth Thanksgiving with your hurricane MIL and my uncle bringing his new girlfriends who is actually half his age, and they moved in together a WEEK after they meet, oh and she just informed us all she is vegan because she read in a book that everyone with type A blood type should be.
