5 Christmas Miracles

December 26, 2014

1. We are snowless and mild here. Payback for last year’s polar vortex, I think. It’s not pretty by any means, but running outside at the end of December without a jacket or black ice? Priceless!

2. I got two (count em, 2!) unassisted pullups on Christmas Eve. There was almost a third but I needed a gentle hand in my back to nudge me up that last couple of inches.

3. You know I’ve been deliberating on March Madness Half or no. If yes, training would need to start now. Honestly I’m having so much fun focusing on strength, I think MM will be a no. My first half might just be RnR Nashville in April. Any takers?

4. I did not overeat on Christmas. Who am I?

5. I went shopping for a real, serious (read no more mom-kini)ย swimsuit and lived to tell about it. I may even have bought one. Alert: they don’t put bra cups in those suckers. Something about drag in the water…as if I was worried about that sort of thing. More on this to come.

Linking up with Mary, Cynthia and Courtney today for the Friday Five.

Friday Five

Is it mild where you are? Did you have a white Christmas? When’s your first race of 2015? Do you have a serious swimsuit? If so what kind?

I own a “serious” swimsuit, but it still has built-in boobs. I wouldn’t be seen in it otherwise, because hello headlights! That’s a no bueno for me.
HOORAY for unassisted pull ups!!!! You are such a rock star!!!! But, yes, you should have taken pics.
I did pretty good on the overeating thing, too. Not so good on the drinking water part, though, so I’m still feeling a little groggy today. Oh, well. Back at it!

Pahla I came up way short on the water aspect as well. I’m working to rectify that now! Agree: headlights=mucho no bueno.

I’m loving the milder weather, especially when I’m off work. I was starting to get mildly depressed with all the darkness. A little sun kept my canceled Christmas from becoming a meltdown.

I’m waiting to here more about this swimsuit shopping. I try to avoid that.

Congrats on the unassisted pull-ups, definitely one of my goals for 2015. I’m pretty sure I’ll be doing Nashville, we’ll have to meet up!

Way to go on the unassisted pull ups! Hurray for getting stronger.

nicely done! so by new years you’ll have 3 pull ups, right? hehe

I have been contemplating March Madness as well. I counted off weeks today and thought OMG I need to start this week. We’ll see if I get up at 6 am on the 31st to get registered. ๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations on the pullups! That’s fantastic. Awesome that you’re focusing on the strength training so much – if that’s what speaks to you right now, then why not, right?

I’m so impressed! I’ve never done a pull up!

My arms are currently frozen in the down position after that punishment heaped on me by Becky. I have never been so sore in my life!

The half I did in Nashville was hilly. But the town was a lot of fun! Props for not overeating. I can’t say that!

It was a very green/brown Christmas for me. According to our weather man, the 5th warmest on record in Syracuse. I only got a short run in but it was nice not dodging snowflakes or ice patches. Training officially starts next week for my first half of the year which is in March. Gonna do a quick 10 week ramp up and then race. Gotta get back on the hills for this one, it covers some of the same route as my Mountain Goat race. I do own a couple bathing suits for pool training, nothing very pretty!! But functional and they stay put:) I believe just regular old Speedos.

I have never done the Rock’n’Roll Nashville but I have done Seattle twice and Arizonan once and I will say they put on a great race! Hope you have a blast training for your half!

Those are 5 good things! I’m enjoying our mild weather, but it’s still nippy for the first dog walk of the day!

    December 26, 2014 at 7:52 pm

It is weirdly mild here, I think it hit 60 today, which is bizarre.

I’m not signed up for any races yet, but I’ll probably have a 1/2 marathon sometime in March.

I haven’t decided on a first 2015 race yet. I DID overeat on Christmas. Yuck. But that’s ok, back to healthy eating as of yesterday !

The weather is great here too! I signed up for Rock n Roll half in Nashville! It will be my first Rock n Roll race- super excited!!!!

It’s mild year round here– I not going to lie, I love it when it’s below 50. Yesterday I ran at 5 am and it was in the 40’s and I was in heaven. I am hoping that my first race in 2015 will be cold too! My first scheduled race is Boston in April, however I am going to sign up for a local 5K and a half marathon before that, just trying to get my training plan together before I do that. Hope you had a very Merry Christmas.

Way to go on the pull ups! IMPRESSIVE.
I however, am enjoying this mild winter. Hoping it doesnt’ show it’s self in March!

I didn’t overeat on Christmas either. But I may have overeaten on Boxing Day and the day after that. I think that all the Christmas food needs to go. And it doesn’t need just me to finish it up.

Pull ups are so hard!! I can’t do one right now, but have made it to 4 before. yikes. I could work on that.
You are lucky to be getting some great running weather! Enjoy while you can!

Unassisted pull-ups, wow, I’m duly impressed! I’m wanting to do more upper-body training since it looks like I can’t exercise my lower body quite as much as I would like. Took a stab at my husband’s assisted pull-up set-up the other day but believe me I am a long way from ever doing one.

WTG on the pullups and not overeating! ๐Ÿ™‚ I was super happy not to overeat this year, too. I just hate going to bed with an achy stomach.

What is a serious swimsuit? For your tri training?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says

Glad you found a suit. Shopping for them is so tough!
At 5’10 all the torsos were too short for me.

  24. Kim says

    December 28, 2014 at 9:08 pm

I know that you can rock any toe of swimsuit you want to!!! Hooray for finding a “non-mom” suit!!!

  25. Alison @ racingtales says

    December 28, 2014 at 9:41 pm

Kudos on the pullups and not overeating! I did zero pullups and plenty of overeating during the last week! Congrats on the suit purchase – make sure it’s nice and tight! If you can barely get into it at first, you bought the right size. My fave suit is TYR durafast as they don’t stretch out as much as other suits. Good luck with the swimming!

It’s been mild here too … and I am loving it! After last years awful winter, I would love no repeat of that. Your shopping sounds interesting and I’m looking forward to more on that ๐Ÿ™‚ (I hate swim suit shopping!)

i’m still in LA (lower alabama) where 40 degrees is cold. ๐Ÿ™‚ wishing i could get AZ knocked out in january/feb but it looks like first 1/2 marathon will be March 1. and, not sure i could do a pull up…way impressed!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
