2015 Race Plans

January 13, 2015

My 2015 race schedule is sketchy at best right now. Thanks to the RocknBlog gig, it’ll be a little like Where in the world is Marcia? Because I am absolutely smitten (there I said it) with this strength training thing I’ve got going, and forcing myself to concentrate on learning to swim, I won’t start official race training until February. I also need to work around Thing 1’s track schedule. Remember I missed her conference championships because I was in Cincinnati running Flying Pig last year? Yeah, that can’t happen again. Here’s how things are shaping up so far:

rnrbadge

April 12: RnR Raleigh (longshot) I’m putting it here in hopes of willing it to happen.

April 25: RnR Nashville Half.

June 14: Espirit de She Tri. The rest of the schedule is contingent on me not drowning here.

July: I’ll be in Europe most of this month. If I can scare up a race, I will. Best of all, I’m finally meeting The Black Knight in Rome. I think Stefano’s been blogging as long as I have.

August: Fort2Base Nautical 10 miler. This race is always hot, but I love it. Plus the earlybird pricing was irresistible.

October 17-18: RnR St. Louis. So many people I already feel like I know, to finally meet or see again here. Mike, Kate, Carla, Kovas. I’m going for the gusto and doing the 5k and half.

November 7-8: RnR Savannah. (longshot) planets and cheap flights will have to align to make this happen. But I’ve wanted to run this one since the beginning of time.

November 13-15: RnR Vegas.

Let’s go back to that Raleigh–Nashville–Savannah triad:

southern surprise

There’s bonus bling bling if I can pull off those 3 races. Cool, yes? Yes.

What does your race calendar look like so far? Have you ever done a race series?

I’m Linking up with Erica, Patty and April for Tuesdays on the Run.

Ooooh lots of fun! We’ve only done one Rock ‘n’ Roll race, but I would be interested in doing some others. I think they are more of a fun way to see a new place, rather than using them as a real race – but that’s just me!

I’d loveee to try to do RNR Nashville! Looks like a fun race schedule! I hear you about costs and flights…that’s really the only thing that holds me back from doing allllll the races.

Woohoo for all your RnR races!!! I did RnR Vegas last year and it was a blast- hope to do another RnR race again this year if I can manage it!

So… no guarantee here. But IF I am not injured again / in shape in Nov I could join you in Savannah…which could open up your flight searching to Columbia, SC and Charleston, SC (I could pick you up on my way down to Sav!). I have no idea if those are more $-friendly fares, but just putting it out there in case the stars align!

I have never done a RnR race! That Southern Charm medal would be very sweet. Savannah would be my choice if I had to pick one. We’ll see…maybe.

The most of a race series I’ve done has been either Rock’n’Roll (one year I did 2!) or the group of races and tri’s that Running Away multisport used to do. I think one year I did four of their events? So good until they stopped hosting the South Shore Triathlon… that was my favorite vote for a newbie race!
Good luck at Esprit de She!

Looks like lots of great locations to me! Savannah would be very cool, I think. And I’m excited to hear about your Europe trip–AND that you are meeting Stefano. What a cool tour guide!

I think both Nashville and Savannah would be great races to do! I did Raleigh last year and it was much hillier than I expected!I heard they might change the course this year so maybe it will be a bit more forgiving:) It sounds like you have an exciting year planned!

I have nothing figured out race wise. It all depends so much on money and time. The one RnR I know I will do is Sav so of course I hope you do too.

I’ve really been wanting to run a RnR run one of these days. I’d absolutely do the Savannah one in a heartbeat (just a couple of hours drive from my house) if it wasn’t on the same weekend as Wine & Dine, which is my favorite runDisney race. Looks like you have a great year lined up! Thanks for linking up with us today!

I WISH I could join you on one of those trips. I thought maybe St Louis but the week after Chicago? I don’t think that’s a good plan…

Looks like a lot of fun to be had! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you do Savannah. I’m still trying to figure out my races, including which RnRs, but Savannah is almost certain for me.

I have nothing official on the schedule yet but may be able to do Nashville too. Our company has a conference earlier in the week, but I think it ends Thursday. If I do it, I might have to come back home Thursday to bring my wife back down there. If you like live music, try to swing an extra day or two. The live music scene is worth going there for a long weekend just to hit the strip.

I just learned about the Fort2Base this past year and I really want to do it– I always do the North Shore 1/2 in Highland Park but I don’t think it’s in the cards for me this year- Did the early bird pricing lapse?? I should check it out

This sounds like fun Marcia. I’m going to say it… I’m really jealous that you will be in Europe for a month.. you BEEE .. LOL just kidding! I can’t wait to follow along and don’t be surprised if I sneak up on you at an airport overseas.

i so wish I was able to tag along on a race. just a heads up on savannah- they jack the hotel prices up more than any city. book now and cancel or look at airbnb once you decide. i’m heading to little rock 1/2, flying pig 1/2, bayshore marathon, covered bridges 1/2, old port 1/2

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
