Blizzard Weekend and Weird Souvenirs

February 2, 2015

chinese cat

The Caveman made it home from Asia finally. Ahead of the blizzard for the win. You already know about the awesome mugs he brought me. (Drinking from Xiamen today) but that’s not all he dragged through customs. We are now the proud owners of this solar-powered lucky waving cat. If he has a formal name, I do not know it. He’s kitschy, hilarious and meant to bring money and good fortune. I’m all for that!

creamBecause he loves me extra much, obviously, Caveman brought me the beauty secrets of the Dragon Empress. Who doesn’t want those? There’s a morning cream, a night cream, a serum with gold flecks suspended in it, and, wait for it, sheep placenta element. Nothing says love like a little sheep placenta.

Now that I’ve got you all grossed out on sheep placenta, let’s talk Super Bowl eats. Honestly I couldn’t care less about the actual game so I can at least make good food, right? Chili is a tradition here. Caveman does not eat beans, so I make this one with butternut squash and cauliflower rice. If you guessed the squash and cauliflower part of this were for me, you’d be right. So chili, in front of the TV and a roaring fire were the extent of our SuperBowl festivities.

conquer this

Now for the greatest moment of the weekend. Caveman and I hit up the gym early Sunday morning. Yes in the blizzard. We swam after. I’ve been busting my tail…I mean fins….trying to get into a swim groove and it’s been tough to say the least. Caveman is not lavish with praise. In fact he’s the one who was most critical of my decision to learn to swim. Remember his initial reaction? After watching me swim a couple of laps, he said “You’ve come a long way since the last time I saw you swim.” Yes, my stroke leaves something to be desired and I still have to work on endurance and a billion other things, but the Caveman doesn’t say things he doesn’t mean just because I want to hear them. He saw progress that I wasn’t sure was there. I am encouraged!

How was your weekend? Do you know someone who is sparing with praise but whose opinion you value? What’s the weirdest souvenir you’ve ever gotten?

Yay!! Great stroke improvement for the win! That is fantastic news, Marcia, as well as the fact the Caveman made it home before the blizzard. I love the sheep placenta cream; that is classic! I can definitely tell you I’ve never received a souvenir quite that interesting! Thank you so much for linking up with the blog again this week; hope your Monday is going well.

YAY for the beauty products…you’ll have to keep us posted as to how they actually work. And super awesome for the praises. Well deserved, I am sure!

Sheep placenta? OMG. That’s insane! I bet it works wonders, though! All of the crazy ingredients seem to make such a huge difference!

Your guy has quite the sense of humor. Next time make him bring back silk! I like the idea of the chili with butternut squash– I admit I haven’t tried the trend of cauliflower rice. We had a good vegetarian chili for our Superbowl party (brought by one of our guests). You know we live in the Seattle area so throwing or attending a Superbowl party was pretty much mandatory. Good game with some great plays (Hearse!), frustrating last play.

I made chili last night too! But I used sweet potatoes (it was a paleo version). I thought it came out pretty good since i don’t really like beans much anyway!

Haha when I went to HK with my old roommates from college, one of them made it their mission to find that waving cat!

The cat thing makes me laugh!! Because Chris has always traveled so much we decided early on that 1 thing from each country/location would be good – I decided to collect cookbooks:)
So cool that the Caveman noticed how much your swimming has already improved – that has to make you feel good!!!

My husband is a man of few words, and I value the praise I get from him. But he’s never brought me sheep placenta. Ha!

    LOVE that cup! 🙂

I will take praise anytime I can get it! 🙂

my hubby can be very short with the praise as well – so if I get a compliment I must be doing something really right! I am still chuckling over the gifts! Sheep placenta= love, he is a keeper that Mr. Caveman!

I always thought that my beauty regime was a little lacking and now I know what it’s lacking in. Sheep placenta. Maybe I should get my cousins who are sheep farmers on the other side of the country to ship me over and couple and I can make my own. I’m sure it’d save a heap of money.

i’m with you on the superbowl. and man, not just the mugs- he did a lot of shopping! being in the skincare industry, i’m really intrigued by the products :):) i had a huge weekend- we got engaged and my mother is the person whose opinion i value but lacks praise. i.e. when i sent her a pic of my ring, “beautiful! you need a manicure.” too bad i had one a little over a week before with gel polish.
