Race Plans for 2016

December 16, 2015

winter in FLorida

We’re leaving for Florida soon. I should be packing and everything else that goes along with travel. I’ve got laundry going so there’s that.

winter party

I volunteered for any/all of Thing 2’s class holiday parties and of course I was picked for the winter one. Because I need another thing to deal with right now. I’m sure in the end I’ll be happy I did it, but right now? Not so much.

Other than the Espirit de She triathlon in June, I haven’t officially pulled the trigger on a single race for next year. I think I fear I’ll over-commit myself and have to bail on some races like I did this year.

race sign up

Here are some races I’m considering:

  • RnRDC Half
  • March Madness Half (I’ve got to be nuts to consider this one again, but I’ve got a soft spot for it)
  • Chicagoland Spring Half
  • Tower Tri
  • Avenue of the Giants Marathon*
  • Eugene Marathon*
  • Iron Girl Triathlon
  • Vancouver Half (I’ll get there one of these years)
  • Indy Monumental Marathon (this is almost a done deal)

*The chance of either of these happening is slim to none. They fall smack dab at the peak of Thing 1’s track season. Remember how I missed her conference final because I was off running Flying Pig? Yeah I don’t want to repeat that.

Part of me knows that if I plan a spring marathon (or even a lot of halfs) I won’t swim as much as I need to to train for the tri. I’d also really like to spend 6 weeks or so early in the year getting my weight down. That never seems to happen when I’m training a lot.

Ok that was clear as mud. Obviously things are very much up in the air here.

Spandits Collage 2

Here’s something that’s very clear: Spandits is having a sale! Take $15 off when you spend $75 and remember SPANDITSLOVE saves you 10% more. Hurry! Sale ends on Christmas.

Runfessions

In case you missed it, Runfession Friday is happening this week! I’ve got some doozies and I hope you’ll stop by and linkup yours!

How are your 2016 plans coming along?ย

I’m so jealous of your trip to Florida!!! How fun!

I don’t have anything on the calendar after Big Sur. We’ll see how things fall out.

Florida? Do you ever stop traveling? ๐Ÿ™‚
Sounds awesome and I hope you have the HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS tomorrow!

    YAY Indy!

I think I’ve nailed down (but not yet registered for), my spring halfs. Both allow for deferrals . . . I only had to miss one race this year, and it wasn’t DNS because I hadn’t yet signed up for it.

I, too, need to drop a few pounds. And yes, it’s very hard to do while training! Or in the winter! Or any other time, it seems.

My race plans are about as up in the air as yours are! But I do have some interesting things I am thinking about!

I’m going to start planning mine today! Great list also ?

I will run a lot of races as usual, The only that is definite is Feb 7 – Sarasota Music Half. I didn’t get into NYC Half, both Brookyn and Steel Rail are scheduled during my tennis vacation and VCM relay is also a lottery. So my spring halfs are up in the air. I may do Zooma Cape Cod in the fall.

Good for you! I haven’t nailed anything down yet for several reasons, but have a few races on my wish list.

I haven’t made race plans yet, but I’m really considering training for a half marathon in the late winter. I just have to find one that sounds fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a few spring races planned and one half but I need to find my big goal race for the year – still trying to decide!

I have the Tinker Bell 10k in May, but nothing planned after that. Like you, I don’t want to get caught up in the hype, then have to bail.

I am also thinking about my 2016 Race Calendar as 2015 was a bust since I had the little guy and couldn’t really train with all the breastfeeding and schedules!! I think I am also going to do the Chicagoland Spring 1/2– did it in 2014 and I really liked it– I try to stay away from city races but I am also thinking about BOA Chicago Marathon ๐Ÿ™‚

If I ever start running again (and I keep planning to), I’d love to run a Napa trail race – that Avenue of the Giants looks pretty awesome as well.

Sounds like a fantastic list of races you have planned for 2016. Have fun in FLA!

I have 4 races on my agenda so far. I am looking to add more but haven’t pulled the trigger yet, its still quite far in advance for me.

I seriously can’t believe that it’ll be 2016 soon — I’m not ready! I’ve got to put some serious time aside this weekend and try to set up a game plan for next year. And that mud snowman seriously made me LOL.

    December 17, 2015 at 1:59 pm

Your dirt snowman initially made me think Bah Humbug! Although I have to say this is probably the most merry & optimistic I’ve been for a December in YEARS! It’s a busy season, but because we are celebrating and giving thanks to our family and friends!

    December 17, 2015 at 2:00 pm

Have a wonderful time in Florida!!! Can’t wait to hear all the details!

RnR DC is fantastic! I think you would thoroughly enjoy it! I’m right there with you on hoping to get to Vancouver for a race someday soon, too. Hooray for not pulling the trigger on many races next year! It’s the best feeling having so much scheduling flexibility, isn’t it?!!?!?

  19. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

    December 17, 2015 at 2:22 pm

I have lots of ideas for my race calendar but have been hesitant to commit. I ended up having to miss so many races in 2015 thanks to the surgery and all that …but I also know that if I need to get focused soon.

  20. Char says

    December 17, 2015 at 3:50 pm

Yeah my 2016 is looking like that too. I have one definite – my first of the year in March – but apart from that there’s just a lot of possibilities. I figure that the year will be an evolution like it usually is.

I am thinking of doing my first triathlon this spring. I was thinking of doing an all female one. I figure that is a good way to get feet wet.

  22. Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says

    December 17, 2015 at 9:18 pm

I too am considering a bajillion races, but haven’t pulled the trigger on any yet either.

  23. Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says

    December 18, 2015 at 2:46 pm

    Have a great trip!

I have not registered for anything in 2016 but am 99% sure I’m registering for Monumental on Jan. 1 when there (supposedly) is a discount. A hefty one.

I am hoping to do a couple spring halfs to see where I’m at fitness wise and gauge how painful the marathon will be in November. I’m hoping I can be in solid sub-2 shape. But, I need to drop weight …

  24. Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says

    December 18, 2015 at 5:24 pm

If this is not a sign for me to try Spandits, well it will have to hit me in the face, What a great deal. Do we just thrive on spreading ourself too thin? Wait, maybe that IS it. Maybe we’d just get bored if we didn’t have a gazillion things on our to-do lists. Have fun in Sunny Florida!

  25. Charissa says

    December 19, 2015 at 6:54 pm

All the best for your upcoming races! I have recently discovered that I enjoy jogging along the canal path and being outside, but I am a far ways off from racing. However, your ambition is motivating!

ahhh! we don’t have any that are the same. boo! I’m sharing mine tomorrow….but have 8 new states planned if all goes accordingly.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
