Get Ready to Sparkle

September 8, 2016

The Gerolsteiner Sparking Detox Challenge starts on Monday, September 12 and I am excited to get this party started! If you missed my previous posts here and here, the Sparkling Detox is a 5-day challenge in which I’ll be swapping all my usual beverages for Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water. For those of you wondering, I’ll be eating as I normally would. No food changes are part of this challenge. I’ll also follow my usual workout schedule.

Coffee. Yeah it’s my morning jam. While I don’t think I’ll have a withdrawal headache (or maybe I’m in denial about this) I wonder if I’ll feel sluggish and unmotivated without my regular cup of joe to jump start my day.

Drinking during workouts. Actually this concern has already been alleviated. This detox is not intended to be an exercise in deprivation. Therefore, drinking straight up tap water, or whatever else I use during runs and workouts is totally allowed and encouraged.

What I’m looking forward to

Health Benefits. I’m curious to see how I feel after 5 days of drinking sparkling mineral water exclusively. Typically my beverages are pretty “clean” consisting of mostly water, a daily kombucha and of course that morning coffee. That said, after learning about the health benefits of calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate contained in each bottle of Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water, I’m curious if I’ll feel differently after just 5 days.

Drinking MORE. Proper hydration is such a simple thing but I’ll be the first to admit it falls by the wayside way too often for me. I’m looking forward to being more mindful and making sure I take in the full 2.4 liters of sparkling mineral water every day. I’m hoping this will put me in a routine that is habit forming beyond the 5-day detox challenge period.

Peer Support. If you haven’t already checked it out, the Gerolsteiner #SparkingDetox Group Facebook page is filled with like minded people who’ll be taking part in the challenge along with me.  Nutritionist and Fitness Expert, Ariane Hundt will be on hand sharing nutrition tips, healthy recipes and more as she guides us through the 5-day challenge.

I don’t think I could give up my morning Joe. Or my noon green iced tea. Do they have a caffeinated version?

Haha! Wendy I don’t think so. We’ll see how this goes…

I love sparkling water! If you ever get bored with the flavor, just squeeze some lemon or lime in the water, or you can always muddle in some berries – all are delicious!

I can’t wait to hear how this goes. I’m typing this while drinking coffee …. that one would be really hard for me, but good to know you can stick with your normal beverage during working out. I’ve been trying really hard to drink more water and when I get the right amount, I can really tell a difference! Good luck!

I love sparkling water and usually put lemon into it. Not sure how I would feel replacing all my beverages, but replacing a lot of the still water I usually drink would definitely be possible.

I’ll be interested to see how it goes. I drink plenty of water throughout the day, but I do have my morning coffee and evening decaf green tea. I think I’d have a harder time giving up my evening tea than the coffee because part of that is just the whole relaxing and winding down process.

What ? NO coffee? Let’s here from you on Wednesday! I need to look for this over the weekend.
