Who’s Up For a Runner’s Retreat?

January 29, 2017

Before I get to the retreat portion of this post, let’s review the week’s workouts. Because it’s all about the workouts…kind of….ok not really, but still:

Monday: Rest (brisk walk, 30 minutes)
Tuesday: Run 5 miles, swim 400m
Wednesday: 20 miles spin class, swim 500m
Thursday: Run 3 miles with plyo intervals and lower body strength
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Run 7 miles
Sunday: CrossFit

I’ll wrap up my January workouts tomorrow since we’re assigning a grade to our month on the Tuesdays on the Run Linkup. Moving on…

About that retreat…

I added a spring race to my calendar that was pretty irresistible and you’re cordially invited to join me. Seriously the more the merrier.

Let’s run the Utah Valley Half or Full Marathon or 10k!

  • Fast, SCENIC, downhill, point-to-point course

  • One of  Runner’s World Magazine’s Top 10 best races
  • Enjoy spectacular views of the beautiful Utah Valley and downtown Provo
  • Receive a FREE Race jacket in honor of the race’s 10th anniversary
  • The marathon is a Boston Qualifier
  • The half marathon is one of the fastest courses in the country with zero turns
  • Save 15% off the registration fee with mhs15
  • When you register with mhs15, receive a FREE beginning, intermediate or advanced training plan specially designed by ME for the race you chose

When do the shenanigans take place? Mark your calendar for June 10. I promise it’s going to be a blast.

Have you been to Utah? Run at altitude? What’s the most scenic race you’ve ever run?

Note: I received a free race entry. All the extra fun and training plans I’m bringing are my own.

Is this the same race Judy is running? Hmm, now you’ve got me thinking of the most scenic race I’ve run!

That looks like it will be an amazing race! We already have a bunch of spring travel plans scheduled so unfortunately I don’t think I can swing it this year. I love that its downhill with zero turns!

Wow this looks so beautiful and fun! If I didn’t have crazy travel plans already this year, I would totally be in. Love that you’re doing this though and making training plans. Count me in for future retreats!

Sounds FABULOUS! We’ll be celebrating our middle son’s high school graduation on June 10. 🙂

I can’t wait!!!! WOO HOO! Bring it on Utah!

  6. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

    January 29, 2017 at 3:00 pm

Course you already know I’m going to be there!

I’ve never raced at altitude. I did some running at altitude in Sedona, and have run in Denver, too.

I’m in it for the scenery, not terribly worried about my time (just having a good time).

More scenic than Big Sur? Man, I wish I could join you. Why did I commit to Grandmas?

Looks like you’ll have plenty of company….

Wish I could go too. Using my vacation days to go to Naples, Fl in May.

Oh man…..here comes the FOMO bus. Unless you can speak to the RD and have this event moved back a month? July would work much better for my schedule (since I’m headed to Grandma’s Marathon on June 18th). Thanks in advance 😉

  10. Barrie says

    January 29, 2017 at 8:43 pm

That looks amazing- the scenery alone and then it’s all downhill- enjoy!

I love the spin class and swim combo as well! I am always starving afterwards too. Your race sounds fun wish I could join you but too many races that month already

I read this and about so many of the other amazing running retreats and think: why has no one done it for walking? For half or full marathon powerwalkers. And then I wonder if that’s not the sign. That I’m supposed to start this?? 🙂 I think I’d rather attend 🙂

  15. Stacey says

    January 30, 2017 at 6:59 am

AH what a gorgeous race venue! I wish I could join you but I’ll be in Seattle around that time 🙂

Hmmm….downhill? It’s definitely intriguing. We usually plan our summer vacations in June but haven’t nailed that down yet. I’ll keep this in mind for sure! Looks beautiful!

  20. Lesley says

Gorgeous picture! This is too close to the Bolder Boulder though, but it does look fun.

  21. Cassandra says

    January 30, 2017 at 12:15 pm

This looks like a great race! I’ll have to add it to my must-consider list for the future. I’ve got a half marathon, Olympic Tri or Sprint Tri every month from April through September already. Hope you have a great race weekend!

  22. Kristen says

    January 30, 2017 at 12:16 pm

  32. jenn says

    January 30, 2017 at 9:23 pm

That looks amazing! I would love to run all downhill like that!

I have never run at any kind of altitude. I would probably pass right out lol!

  33. Sharon says

    January 31, 2017 at 2:08 am

Sounds like a great race! Utah is beautiful! That’s where my mother-in-law and sister-in-law live! How cool that it is downhill and sounds like some great swag with the coat included! Very tempting!!!

  34. HoHo Runs says

    January 31, 2017 at 5:55 am

You make this race sound so enticing! Zero turns? WTH? Does.not.compute. I love a good downhill course and I’ve never been to Utah. It sounds like the one I did outside of Denver. The altitude got me on that one but it still remains my favorite. But the date for this…UGH. Thanks for linking, Marcia!
