5 Summer Things I Love

July 19, 2018

If you guessed it was tough to limit this to just 5 things, you’re right. I pretty much love everything about summer….except for those soul-sucking humid runs….and mosquitoes…

Anyway here are five things you should check out!

I resisted Swell bottles for a looong time. Yeah they’re gorgeously shaped and come in fun colors and designs but how well can you clean them? How do you get ice in there?? Well the teenager HAD to have one and that’s when I learned just how deliciously cold they keep water. For hours/days on end. Wow! But I still don’t care for the ice not fitting thing. And when you get down to it, they don’t hold all that much liquid.

Enter Corkcicle. It’s big and heavy (that’s why we strength train, right?) and maybe still hard to clean, I’ve got a tool for that, but being able to fit in normal size ice cubes is so fabulous. I don’t run with mine, obvi, but I do bring it to the pool, the track, hot yoga, the gym, keep it in the car, wherever I want lots of ICY COLD water. This summer, that’s pretty much everywhere.

Fun Summer Kombucha flavors. Hello Watermelon Synergy my love! Even though I’ve cut back on my kombucha consumption since I wrung most added sugars out of my diet, I still love a refreshing hit of the booch on a fairly regular basis. This one was love at first sip.

Collagen Endurance Plus. I’ve been putting 2T of Great Lakes Collagen Hydrolysate in my morning coffee for a few months now but recently I discovered Collagen Endurance Plus and its become my afternoon go-to. 14.5g protein, 7 essential B Vitamins, Vitamin C and Antioxidants give me an energy lift I totally appreciate. Plus its sooo refreshing and delicious. Use code GLGRunDefinitely20 to save 20% on your order.

New Balega Enduro Socks. Between Enduro, Blister-Resist, and Hidden Comfort, Balega socks have gotten me through the training/running of 11 marathons and 50+ half marathons not to mention plenty of shorter races. The 2018 edition of the Enduro was just unveiled this week and I got the pleasure of a test run. Let’s just say these suckers did not disappoint. The V-Tech Arch Support system gently hugs my foot while giving my toes room to move. They’re a mid-weight sock that’s not too thin and not too thick. Just right for this runner!

These are two of my all-time faves and they’re ON SALE!!

Now Foods on SALE!! I was so impressed with their attention to purity and quality control when I attended the Now Foods Immersion a few years back, but now they’re raising the bar even higher. Now Foods has invested in third-party certification through Informed Sport to ensure that what’s on the label is exactly what’s in the bottle. That’s peace of mind I can trust!

Everything at Now is reasonably priced every day but now through July 31, save 15% on select Now products on Amazon when you search on Amazon with 15NOWSPORTS.

5 things to love this summer! @nowfoods @balega @corkcicle @kombuchasynergy @greatlakesgel

I’ve wanted to get my hands on that watermelon kombucha all summer and I can’t find it anywhere! Where do you buy yours?

The BIG thing in water bottles here in outdoorsyland Colorado are Hydro Flask. EVERYONE has them. Including me 🙂 but particularly big with the rock climbers. I got the wide mouth 64oz and I put ice in it before I go to work and when I leave (12.5 hours later….whaaaa), there’s still ice in it. SO amazing! I just put my Leadville sticker on it :).

You look totes adorable, Lou! Summer definitely agrees with you!! Good luck with RnR Chicago this weekend!

    xo

I’ve got so many water bottles and I have yet to love any of them. Looks like I may need to add another one to my collection…

I also do not use the Swell bottles because they are hard to clean and they are so heavy in my bag. Resistance training for sure! 🙂

The only bad thing about summer is that it ends. 🙂 luckily we don’t get a lot of mosquitoes where I live.

    Love Balega!

I’m racing tomorrow & they changed the course — like seriously changed, from all road to first 10 miles unpaved road & there’s no packet pickup, they’re handing out bibs at the start, & sent out an email yesterday saying they’re a little short on volunteers . . . well, what could go wrong with this scenario?

Enjoy your race & all the bloggers!

I have struggled with getting socks that I like or that suit me – I should give these a shot!

    I’m just loving the sun!

I love Balega – my favorite socks (I still get blisters though).

I may whine about the heat but it is my favorite season.

I have a 5k tomorrow – not expecting much because I have run fast since the last one like 6 weeks ago. But it’ll be a fun time followed by boating.

Good luck this weekend. It will be so much fun to meet-up with the bloggers.

I use Tervis Tumbler and I can fit ice in, and I can either wash them by hand or stick them in the dish washer. Voila! I don’t know how long it would actually stay cold, but the double layers keep things cold and eliminate condensation.

I love summer kombucha flavors! Some breweries around town carry them so I can enjoy them post run instead of a beer. So fun.

Also, Balega socks SAVED my feet. I didn’t have a good pair of socks until I found these and I swap between Balega and Feetures now.

I had a Swell but updated to a bigger bottle that was similar for like $6 at Target. I’ve heard Corcksicle is good too though. Anything that keeps water cold is great!

I have a Contigo water bottle. No spilling or leaking which I love. I would love to get one to add ice and keep my water cold.

My love my Smartwool socks and wear them on each run.

I hope to see you on Sunday! Have a great race.

The Naperville Women’s Half Marathon has given free balega socks in the swag bag the past two years and I absolutely love them! I’ve been wearing the Nike Dri Fit socks forever and they suddenly don’t work for me. I am happily switching to all balega!

I have quite the Swell collection and a few Corkcicle. I love LOVE Great Lakes Collagen Endurance so good and no crash.

I love summer too! I promised myself last winter that I would NEVER complain about heat or humidity after running in the ice, snow, and wind. Guess what – that promise lasted about 5 minutes once June got here! 🙂

I really, really hope I find the watermelon flavored kombucha here in Hong Kong!! I notice you’re holding BCAAs in the last pic…do you take BCAAs and collagen? It’s time for me to research collagen and if I should consider using it.

I’m gonna have to try to find that kombucha! Watermelon is the perfect summer flavor!

We used to have an ice mold that made skinny tubes for water bottles. Who has time for that? I do love the stainless steel bottles.

I love any water bottle that can keep my water cold for hours! Definitely helps when I take my water bottle to work.

I tried the watermelon flavor kombucha last month and instantly feel in love. It was SO good!

It was nice to finally meet you in person today – See you tomorrow!

I feel so old school with my Camelbak water bottles, lol. My 2.5 year old son has his own and he loves them just as much if not more than I do.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
