Stress Is Great For Weightloss

August 27, 2018

While the oppressive heat and humidity are still hanging around, August is rapidly slipping away. That means it’s time on the Tuesdays on the Run Linkup to grade your month. Did you accomplish everything you set out to do?

For consistency’s sake, I’ll use the criteria I set for myself at the beginning of the year.

Running: A

Although this past week was kind of a freak show, I’m still giving myself an A here. I hit the track this month and did all except one long run on the trails. I got my long run up to 12 miles, which I haven’t done since last February. I feel like I actually started training for Zooma Great Lakes, Lululemon Seawheeze and the Philly Marathon…finally.

Crosstraining: B

My crosstraining game has been pretty strong with plenty of strength training and CrossFit, a little cycling and some swimming thrown in. I’d give myself an A if only I didn’t let yoga slide a little too much.

Weightloss: A

I’m down another 2 pounds this month. Actually I lost that last week. I don’t eat when I’m under stress so, if nothing else, the teenager’s car accident was good for some weightloss. I’m still mostly off of added sugars and I still enjoy a giant salad on most days, but like last month, I’ve kept some rice (hello Chipotle bowl) and pasta in my diet and I think my runs have been better because of it.

Fun: B

Most of August felt like we were buckling down for school, since the kids went back on August 13. That sort of put a damper on fun. We saw Crazy Rich Asians and had some nice meals out but the rest of the month on the fun front is kind of a blur.

How was your month? Does it feel like a blur? Do you forget what you did like I do? Do you eat more when you’re stressed? Or less?

I’m the exact opposite with stress – I eat. And it’s not healthy stuff. I may be currently tightening down my eating plan because of various stressful things going on.

And I’m so off schedule that I thought I had missed the runfessions this month. Oy.

Stress has always been my secret weapon in keeping off the pounds. When I’m stressed, I can’t eat. And since I’m so high strung…well, you catch my drift.

I hope things settle down for you.

So had a great month – A’s and B’s look good to me! I am the opposite when it comes to stress, I eat more…comfort food, you know?

In ways this month feels like a blur because I was so busy and physical therapy has taken up so much of my time (and energy).

Ooooooh i’m definitely the opposite. I stress eat!! And I’ve been stressed lately, so … yeah.

I tend to eat unhealthy stuff when I am stressed. Hope you are feeling a lot better this week. I forgot you were doing Philly. I am still hoping to do the half so perhaps we will find a time to meet up again. Here’s to September!

I don’t really know what I do when I”m stressed out…I think I “stress snack.” (?) My August was a blur, too, and the daughter didn’t head off to college until this past Sunday…not sure how that happened….

Lately when I’ve been stressed, I’ve had a stomach ache too. That doesn’t help in trying to eat healthy things. Other times I just don’t feel hungry, and I eat only because I know I need to.

So sorry to hear about your teen’s accident. I hope he (she?) is OK! You know what is good for stress? Running! ๐Ÿ™‚

When I’m majorly stressed I too lose my appetite. I lost lots of weight during my mother’s whole surgery fiasco a couple of years back. Unfortunately it has a way of creeping back on. ๐Ÿ™

I really don’t think anyone can keep all the fitness balls in the air and have a life. Something’s always gotta give, so you prioritize what’s important to you and just have to let go of guilt over the stuff you can’t get to.

I missed the accident — I’m assuming she’s ok? That must have been majorly stressful though. Hugs!

I eat when I am stressed so that wouldn’t be a good weight loss solution for me. At least with everything going on, losing a couple of lbs was a positive ๐Ÿ™‚ And how do you just stop eating added sugars??? I know you just stop lol, but I can’t seem to make that happen. I need to though.

Great month! I agree- your runs are definitely benefiting from the rice and pasta. I’m the opposite- I look to food when I’m stressed! Not the best coping skill.

Oh I go straight for all of the unhealthy stuff when I’m stressed! Minus the stress, it sounds like August was a good month. I’m doing what I can to keep the month from being a complete blur, but it’s never easy with school looming.

I can’t believe it’s the end of August already. Time is buzzing by at an amazing speed. Glad you are having some good runs and congratulations on knocking off those pounds!

I’m all over the place with my eating. And now I want a popsicle! I won’t give up the rice. I could do without pasta, but I love my sushi

Teens and car accidents kind of go together. I hope everyone’s all right. And I’m glad you got in a good road trip before the back-to-school tasks started. Best of luck to you and your kid with that senior year.

Overall, sounds like a productive month! I need to do more cross training and yoga for sure…

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
