The Lull Before Back to School

August 9, 2020

It was another quiet week. Probably the last quiet week for awhile. With back to school drawing nearer it was time to tie up loose ends. Before I go on here’s how the workouts went. Pretty much the usual.

Monday: Walk 4 miles, Rest
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles + Abs
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Upper Body Strength
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Run 4 miles + Isometric Strength Workout
Friday: Walk 4 miles, rest (party prep)
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength

Perhaps the biggest news was it cooled off here this week. (Don’t worry, the heat is back in all it’s steamy glory). Running is a whole different, fabulous animal when the humidity drops. It was wonderful to turn off the air conditioning. Our July electric bill was off the leash.

Morning temps in the 50s had me grabbing a hoodie for our crack of dawn trail walks. I won’t lie, some crisp morning air felt wonderful.

I spy a Costco chocolate cake and hydrangeas from my garden. After years augmenting the soil, I finally was successful in getting them to bloom BLUE! Brain surgery may have been easier. Ha!

Thing 1 is shipping out to college this week and we gave her one last celebratory send-off. Although it wasn’t the summer she’d planned on, I think she made the best of it working and taking two summer school courses. Needless to say, she’s beyond excited to return to school.

We grilled burgers for the carnivores and I made Grilled Citrus Cod as well. Here’s the recipe if you missed it.

Thing 2 has another flute recital tonight (Sunday). Yes, she had a recital last weekend as well. I really appreciate her flute teacher’s efforts to keep her students engaged in a super challenging time. This recital will be all contemporary flute pieces. Thing 2 is performing a piece by Alexander Wagendristal, an Austrian flutist (currently in his 50s) who composed his first musical piece at the age of 4. Can you imagine?

Your hydrangeas are gorgeous! And that cake doesn’t look bad either. 😉 Good luck getting your oldest settled at school. I’m sure she’s glad to be seeing her college friends again. The recitals sound like a great diversion these days. Love that your daughter is still able to perform.

I feel like we’re “over the hump” with summer heat. Yes we still need to make it through August, and September can be pretty toasty as well, but we’re getting there. The hydrangeas as very nice, but if had had to choose I would go with the cake;-)

We had a ton of rain this week which threw off my swim sessions. Humidity is still off the charts. It usually gets better by mid August. Enjoy those cooler days. Good luck to.both of us on the college move in this week. It’s stressful!

I didn’t mention this in my post…but it was most ironic how cool it was here last week, and I was (literally) stuck inside with Max LOL Those hydrangeas are absolutely divine!

I would love the heat and humidity to leave, even for just one day. Our July electric bill was also higher than usual, but no surprises since we’ve been running the AC nonstop.

I’ve been so impressed with how children have adapted over the past few months. It’s hard for adults to understand everything that’s going on, so I can’t imagine what it must feel like for them. They have really done a great job at rolling with the punches!

I was distracted from your hydrangeas by that chocolate cake, lol! My hydrangeas did not do much this year. I need to diiscuss this soil augmentation with you!

Good luck to both girls! I’m sure you’re nervous for Maddie to return to school. <3

It did cool off, although no 50s or hoodies here. But the cooler weather felt great! It’s back to hot & humid for the next few days.

Solid week, Marcia. May your daughter’s return to school (well, both of them) be smooth. Such trying times.

It was pretty hot and humid when we ran in Joliet on Friday. I loved it, though. We found a pretty flat trail to run on that had plenty of shade. Good luck to both your daughters when they go back to school!

It’s nice to have a little lull, right? Though I’m sure back-to-school feels a lot different these days!

We had a similar cool down before another heat wave. It spoiled me a little and it was harder to get those the humid run after such a treat!

Beautiful flowers- you must have quite a green thumb! 🙂

    Also, that cake looks fabulous!

I also enjoyed the cooler weather this week. My electric bill has been high too.

I hope both of your daughters have a great school year!

It didn’t cool off much here this week. Maybe for like a day the temps were down but its still been really humid. Hope all the back to school stuff goes well!

I think it cooled off. All a blur these days.

Now it’s hot again. I’m ignoring the temps.

Good luck to both your daughters. What trying times. I hope they will look back and laugh.

Oooh. That cake looks yummy, although I prefer ice cream. 🙂

It’s absolutely not cooling down here at all yet. I feel like we are just getting started. We do a “budget billing” for the year, so our electric bill is fairly consistent (the electric company averages our annual bill and then we pay the same thing each month. It makes it easier for planning purposes and we are usually right on the nose at the end of the year).

Good luck to your daughters. Our district is supposed to start 8/31 but little man will start virtual school on 8/19. We are just waiting on his schedule.

Costco cakes are soooooooo good! I hope school goes well for your kids. As of this afternoon, it sounds like my kids will be starting out with a hybrid plan, having 2 days in class. I’m really looking forward to get school started and get some sort of schedule going on. We had some really nice temperatures around here too – but yep, so sweaty this morning!!

We have not gotten any relief from our heat down here in Florida. Wish we did!
Good luck with back to school, this year seems insane for tha

Cooler temps would be lovely – we’re under a heat advisory again here 🙁

Wishing the best for your daughter as she returns to campus – we’re counting down the days here to my son leaving for school and I’m working hard to stay calm!
