Final Runfessions of 2020

December 24, 2020

I hope you’re all having a wonderful Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate) and that Santa was good to you. While most everything is closed on Christmas Day, the Runfessional is open. The scent of fresh pine is in the air and strains of the London Symphony’s version of White Christmas play as I sip my peppermint mocha-laced coffee. It is the final Runfession Friday Linkup of one helluva a crazy year so let’s get the festivities started shall we?

I swear runners are the best people. Of course we knew that, right? Case in point: My birthday. It comes at a busy time of year when people are immersed in their own holiday stuff. That’s why I super appreciate when people take a minute to send birthday wishes via Facebook, text or however. I runfess that I’m pretty darn flattered when running royalty like Bart Yasso, takes the time to send me a birthday message, as he does every single year.

Bart and I at a Boston Marathon pre-race shindig circa 2010, back in the day when I could sustain a sub 9 minute mile pace for 26.2.

I already told you I had a VERY nice birthday. The whole fam was extraordinarily thoughtful and attentive. I runfess I found myself deferring to their likes. When the choice of a dinner takeout place was mine alone, all I could think about was who liked what and who would hate what I picked. I did the same thing with birthday cake flavors. It was odd to put myself FIRST for once.

Ozzy wasn’t that into my original birthday gift either

Ok so that gift that got returned? It was a metabolism tracker by Lumen. Apparently when you breathe into it, it tells you if you’re burning fat or carbs and you can tweak your diet accordingly. I appreciate that the Caveman thought this would be interesting to me, but I runfess I’m just not that into it. I’d much MUCH rather burn calories on my new bike, which by the way was also the Caveman’s idea.

The Runfession Friday linkup is open! Ever return a birthday gift? See what I sent back #runfessions

Ok your turn: What do you need to get off your chest before we head into 2021? Do you openly admit you’d rather have a different gift?

I just shop for myself, so gifting isn’t an issue at my house, lol! That’s every year. But what a strange holiday it’s been. Actually, what a strange, terrible year it’s been. Here’s to getting back on track with everything. I miss our lunches.

    Merry Christmas, my friend!

I think I told you about my hubby’s perfume (near)fail last year. I like the perfume a little, but I definitely do not love the stuff. That said, after several attempts (and several months LOL), I’m still not a fan of it. Oh well. That metabolism thing would be a hard sell for me, though it does sound interesting. I’m excited to hear more about the new bike!!! Enjoy your Christmas with the family <3

I am glad that you made your birthday all about you! You deserve it. Things go better over here when I pick out my gifts as well. I know you will enjoy your new bike! That lumen thing is interesting but might drive me nuts. Have a merry Christmas and great day with your family

You definitely deserve to be celebrated! Love that Bart Yasso sent you a greeting. I met him at one of the last RW Halfs (not the big one everyone went to!) and he was SO NICE. LOL on the gift that got returned. I can see why he got it, and also why it missed the mark. I hope you and your family have a lovely holiday!

I do a lot of taking care of others (even without kids) and I have absolutely no troubles picking what I want to eat & the cake flavors I love the most. Maybe because I’m not a mom, LOL! But I do pick the flavors Mr. Judy likes when it’s his birthday. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Merry Christmas, Marcia!

    I sipped peppermint mocha too.

And yes, I would have preferred that bike. Enjoy!

    Merry Christmas.

Yeah – I would have returned the Lumen, too! I usually keep stuff because I’m lazy. My inlaws buy so many gifts – even this year. The Husband and I don’t even bother any more!

So happy that you had a very nice birthday. The original gift from your husband sounded cool/different, but I agree that you’ll get way more use out of that awesome spin bike!

That photo of Ozzy made me laugh because it’s exactly how I looked/felt this morning when I woke up, lol.

I would frame that photo and every message I got from Bart Yasso!!
Amazing that he takes the time to send you a message. You can be so proud.

I sometimes get food gifts I don’t like. Homemade jam and chutney and things like that. I runfess I don’t have the heart to tell the gift-givers.

Happy belated birthday! I’m glad you are enjoying your bike. I too would like that better than the tracker thing!

I’m so glad you had a nice birthday and are enjoying your new bike! I would have returned the Lumen too ๐Ÿ˜‰ That look on Ozzy’s face is priceless!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
