Running Through the Season of Giving

December 6, 2020

Our unseasonably mild weather came to an end this week and, while we missed out on the snow, things got chilly, especially on our morning walks. Here’s how my workouts went.

Monday: Walk 4 miles, Track Intervals
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Upper Body Strength +Core
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles Run 4 Trail Miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Full Body Strength
Friday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Saturday: Walk 4 miles Trail Run 5 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength

Pretty much the usual “maintenance mode” stuff as my Garmin calls it. I’m not training for anything and this mix of track, trail and strength leaves me feeling  joyful, strong, and fits my schedule.  Maybe it’s boring but I have nothing to prove.

The frosty sunrises are a sight to behold.

I made it to the track as per usual. I’m starting to feel like my days on it are numbered though. Once it ices up, any speedwork will have to be on the mill. Until that day comes though, I’ll keep showing up.

The trails are bereft of foliage for the most part now and the ponds are freezing up. To be honest, a blanket of snow would beautify things considerably. I’ll be careful what I wish for.

At least somebody’s ready for the holidays

On the home front, it was finals week for Thing 1. Thing 2 has her finals this week. This little monkey had a day at the spa while we did an adopt-a-family and food pantry shop, then spent Saturday volunteering.

Thankfully our volunteer stint was outdoors. I’ll take fresh cold air over increased risk of Covid indoors any day.

Watching

We finished watching The Undoing. We enjoyed it. Now we’re watching Shtisel. Thing 1 and I started watching Selena on Netflix. What’s next??

New On YouTube

Lower Body Cardio Blast. This is a perfect sequence when you’re short on time and who isn’t these days? It’s short but intense and you’ll feel it the next day. At least I did! Notice the leggings in the pic. They’re athletic “shapewear” from Leonisa and they were sent to me for review. They feel great and are higher compression that most of my tights. They’re also made from recycled water bottles, how cool is that? The waist was designed to smooth out any belly pooch but what I like best of all is they give me a banging behind. Typically when I buy leggings, I buy them for the cool design or performance qualities vs how they make me look but these definitely shape things up while staying comfy at the same time.

No time to workout? Give this 10-minute Lower Body Cardo Blast a try! #youtubeworkout

“Maintain” is a perfectly good fitness goal for right now. We had a big snowstorm this week, so sadly I’ve been maintaining indoors. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about Undoing. Enjoy Shtisel!

You and I both touched on the weather in our posts today! It has been fabulous, hasn’t it? And I’d be fine with no snow, lol.

We’re watching The Flight Attendant. It’s quite a bit different than the book but it is entertaining!

I love your morning frosty run photos! My daughter is getting ready for her first winter in Chicago. Maintenance mode sounds good to me! Just hoping to hold onto some semblance of a running base while away. Always looking for new things to watch too. Have a great week!

I think I’ll be in maintenance mode for awhile this winter too. Although I’m considering training for a 5k just to work on speed. But I have a feeling the weather may make it difficult to get in speed workouts each week.

I look forward to your run morning run photos because they are always so pretty!

Love that you were able to do your volunteer shift outdoors – I totally agree with you about bing outdoors vs indoors.

How great you’ve still been able to hit the track for so long into the winter! Hopefully the ice and snow stay away for a bit longer 🙂

I’m still in a bit of re-building mode, but will be in a “holding pattern” once I get back to the 5-mile distance. Like you, I have nothing to prove either, so I’m going to hold off on cranking out 10-mile long runs until well after 2021 arrives. It’s rather liberating 😉 Our temps did plummet a bit the past couple days, but Momma N compromised with plenty of sunshine (and sent the wind elsewhere), so I’m totally good with everything.

Thankfully Winter hasn’t completely arrived yet — and I will never wish for snow!

Nothing wrong with maintenance mode. It’s keep you fit & happy & that’s what’s important.

How nice of you to volunteer! I hear you on inside. Not really pleased my sister spent 2+ hours in with my mom (my sister works at Old Navy).

Oh, your trail photos are gorgeous! The frosty one is fantastic. I feel the same way about my workouts. I’m in a groove with nothing to prove. 😉 I hope your daughters get through their exams without too much stress.

I am watching The West Wing and want to finish it before it is gone from Netflix. How is your daughter liking Selena? I’ve heard mixed reviews about it.

I am pleased with the weather, well, except the wind. Hopefully we’ll get by this Winter with no snow. What are the chances of that happening?

That “frosty” photo is so pretty! Our fabulous fall weather came to a screeching halt yesterday – winter has officially arrived.

That’s great that you were able to volunteer and be outdoors!

Hope all goes well with your daughters’ exams.

I’m in full-on holiday mode! Put up the outdoor lights yesterday in our beautiful weather (here in Florida that means we’re not sweltering).
Maybe you’ll luck out with a dry winter and be able to continue on the track- but speedwork on the treadmill isn’t bad either. Have a great day Marcia!

We’ve had frost several times…no snow yet. This past week was a rainy one and I got wet on 3 of my runs.

After my 5k on Sunday, I think I should hit the track…I’ve lost my speed. Not sure it really matters right now but your pics are inspiring.

I am in full holiday mode! I have been looking forward to this for months – especially since I missed out on so much with my broken leg last year!

Hope the pupper had a great spa day and so glad your family has been able to volunteer. So many organizations are in such dire need right now.

Good for you for still getting to the track! My speedwork will resume in January, as will my marathon training. I really hope we get some snow here soon. I dislike the dreary brown/grey look of everything without it.
