Weekly Rundown: Could Our Kitchen Be Finished?

October 3, 2021

All of our walks and some of my runs start in total darkness now. Fall is undeniably here. Here’s how the week in workouts shook out.

Monday: Walk 4 miles, Upper body Strength + Core
Tuesday: Walk  miles, otherwise rest
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles otherwise rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Run 4 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Strength + Core

Workouts were sparse because I am deeply underwater work-wise, and a certain mole pretty much threw me off my game. What had been a tiny spot at my temple suddenly grew larger and sent me sprinting toward the dermatologist. Long story short, it was removed and the biopsy came back benign. Big sigh of relief. Welcome to middle age.

There are 450 kids in our high school’s band program so they’re broken up by ability, based on an audition, into 6 different bands.

We attended Thing 2’s first in-person band concert since she’s been in high school. The audience was limited and spaced out for obvious reasons but it was so great to be there vs seeing another Zoom performance. What a breath of fresh air that was!

It was another week of playing cat and mouse with the workmen here finishing up the kitchen. After last week’s setbacks, we had some significant wins. Our cooktop was installed and so was the almighty backsplash.

There was a shift in crew too. Painters descended on the kitchen. Fine tuning things like drawer and cabinet inserts also took place. There are some tiny tweaks left to do (two long drawer pulls in the mudroom, pocket door hardware), but by Friday for all intents and purposes, I proclaim our kitchen renovation FINISHED!

Ready for the reveal?

First here are the before shots.

It was a well-appointed kitchen in which I spent many (20) happy years cooking, baking and preparing holiday meals, but it was time for a refresh.

I wanted something lighter and brighter, with a relaxed vibe. I suppose I should’ve turned on the lights for the pic. The chandelier is still missing some bulbs.

The Caveman was out of town when the reno began, leaving me to remove the contents of both the kitchen and mudroom in a frenzied rush. Coincidentally he’s out of town now too, so it’s up to me to put everything back. I’m going much slower now and being more mindful about what actually goes back and what goes away. Four unopened rolls of wax paper anyone?

How was your week? Any races? Has fall weather made it’s appearance?

LOL about 4 rolls of wax paper! Funny how the cavenman just happened to disappear at the right times. 🙂

Looks wonderful, Marcia, enjoy it — finally! 20 years. Can’t imagine. The longest we’ve lived in one home was 15. Perhaps our next move will be our final move (or almost final if we don’t end up in an old folks home).

I can imagine you’re very happy to have your home back to yourselves now.

Your kitchen is looking fabulous, well done! We’ve decided not to do anything to ours except for the worktops as who knows how long we’ll be here (Mr Liz has plans to gravitate towards Spain …).

Love, love, love it! When our kitchen was just about done my husband declared it done and changed the entry code. He was over having people in the house and preferred to do the final touches himself. 🙂

I went through a similar derm appt a few weeks ago. Worse thing was, they said if it was fine they’d just email through the portal so my heart skipped a beat when they called – it was benign too.

Very happy to hear that the mole was benign, but I know that sometimes the waiting for results can be the worst part. Totally know what you mean about work – I told my friend earlier this week that I was totally drowning in work. Hopefully things get better for both of us soon!

I absolutely love the new kitchen! And it’s so nice that everything is in place so that you can enjoy it before the holidays.

Your kitchen really looks nice! Very bright & cheerful 🙂 Ours was just updated a couple years before we moved in; I’ve painted it, but am thinking a different color might be a nice change. It’s an open kitchen, though, so that will start a chain reaction, I fear.

Wow, it looks so great! I love the while and the brightness! We had our house built when we moved in so we got to pick the colors, and after it was done I wished I had gone with white. However, now that I have a toddler I probably would have regretted that. So glad for you that its finally done!

So happy that the mole was benign…how stressful!

I absolutely love your kitchen!! Congratulations on surviving the home reno!

Wow, your kitchen looks beautiful! It looked nice before, too. It must feel so good to have it all updated.

I love seeing J playing her flute again. I’m sure you do too!

How exciting! The new kitchen is beautiful!!! So bright and fresh looking. I hope you have another 20 years of happy cooking.
My daughter also has a band concert next week! This will actually be her very first concert that we’re able to attend in person- I’m so excited. Although, it is a middle school band and the program really took a hit last year with the pandemic. They won’t be quite ready for Carnegie Hall, but I can’t wait to hear them anyway, and see her playing.

The new kitchen looks wonderful Marcia! Putting things back is kind of fun, a new opportunity to be thoughtful about organization. Enjoy!

I had a scary back mole removed a few weeks ago that seemed to come up out of nowhere. Glad yours was benign!

Glad to hear that the mole was benign. In 1991 mine was “bad” but only at 1st grade and….. I survived.
Your kitchen is very beautiful, congrats!

Not enough fall for me here! 😉

    Love the new kitchen.

I’m in process of putting things back. Such a long process.

THE KITCHEN IS AMAZING!!!! It’s so bright and airy! Congratulations!

I am so excited for A’s first concert. We’ve never seen him perform before, virtual or otherwise, so it’s going to be a great night.

I’m glad your mole was benign. That’s scary.
