Running Down July

July 3, 2022

Well, like it or not, June has given way to July. Summer has a way of slipping away all too fast, so I’m not thrilled about having June gone, but let’s make the most of what we have. Here’s how the week in workouts went:

Monday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 3 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Track, 4 miles
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Strength + Core
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles + Barre
Friday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run of some sort

I have to say the weather has been summery and gorgeous. No complaints at all. Yes some of my running was steamy, but it’s summer after all and I don’t need to cover mega miles or hit certain paces anyway. The warmth and early daylight has made it easy to get my behind up and out running by 6am.

I made it to the track for the second week in a row. I’m still sprinting the straightaways and jogging the curves but I can already feel progress. The human body is amazing.

Bonus points to have matching shoes and skirt!

I was blessed with another treat from my personal shoe fairy. This time she sent me the Nike Pegasus Trail shoe. Like the Pegasus road shoe, this one is a winner so far.

Today we’re celebrating the July birthdays, which include the Caveman and his twin bro (birthday boys today) and Thing 2 who turns 17!!!! later this month. I can’t even.

New On YouTube

Barre Workout. We’re switching gears a bit because changing things up does a body good and this sequence hits the muscles that running does not, meaning it helps correct muscle imbalances. Try it!

Hope you have a fun and safe Independence Day! How was your week?

Barre is a nice change of pace! I took a short peloton barre class yesterday and can feel it in my glutes today.

June flies by way too quickly…I am trying not to complain about running in the heat, at least there’s no ice!

I have been doing daily Peloton barre classes for the past month and loving them. Who would have thought? they are great to add into the rotation, This month sure did fly by!

I’m hoping to hit the track (possibly) this week as a substitute for a “longer” run. Then again, with my 10K on Saturday…I may postpone the track another week. I love all the flexibility summer affords me when there’s not much for upcoming races (after this week, that is). I agree, June flew by much too quickly….

Those trail shoes are sure pretty! Glad to hear you like them. I’m not doing any formal speed work but I’m certainly working on speed on my Friday runs on the bike path. The steamy conditions have definitely slowed me down. But it’s all money in the bank, am I right?

Apparently we had a relatively mild June even though we hit a record-setting 99F one day. So far July is humid but not too hot. Of course humid means sweaty!

    Yay for your shoe fairy!

    Enjoy the birthday celebrations.

Ooh! I’ll do your barre class! I did a short one on Peloton yesterday and it was a great warmup for my run.
Nice job with your workouts, and making it to the track! Yes, it’s almost like magic- speed workouts actually do make you faster! Plus it’s fun to run fast sometimes.
    Happy 4th!

Your shoe fairy is awesome! I need a shoe fairy. 🙂

Wow, busy birthday month for you, Marcia! Tomorrow is my only born in America granda’s birthday. Of course he’s been gone since I was a teenager, but I always think of him on the 4th — which we’ll spend with my mom, so no races for me.

Nice that you’re seeing progress in your track runs already!

So nice that your shoe fairy came through for you again 🙂

It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen the track, but you’ve inspired me to get back to it. Might be nice to mix things up a little.

    Enjoy the birthday celebrations!

I’m still in shock that half of 2022 is over. This first half of the year went by quickly. I like your shoe fairy! Does she also extend her services to Connecticut? lol.

Happy early birthday to your husband and daughter!

Love your shoe fairy! How fun!

The week was ok. I’m processing a lot, which has me kind of emotionally paralyzed, but what can you do.

Can’t wait to do your barre video. They’re one of my new-ish favorites.
    Enjoy the bday festivities
And yes, summer daylight makes it so much easier to be active

I agree, track workouts are awesome!
I had no clue what barre workouts are all about. I imagined some ballet-class-type movements. From your video, I see that I wasn’t far off.
A really cool workout for all those muscles we don’t use often! So good for training balance as well.
