The Rundown Rundown

July 24, 2022

It was another week on tilt here, and yes, I’m feeling quite rundown. I continue to struggle to find that work/life balance and as a result my workouts suffered and I feel like summer is slipping away and I’m not taking full advantage of it. Here’s what went down.

Monday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Tuesday: Walk 3 miles, nothing else
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Strength + Barre Workout
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Speedwork 4 miles
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, rest
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength

I managed one road run and one trail adventure this week. The shady trails were much appreciated because the blazing heat is here in all it’s sweaty glory. So are the wicked thunderstorms.

Once again the track was packed so I took my speedwork to the roads and it was fine. The Nike Alphafly Next% continue to be positively dreamy. So much fun!

Well, I’m never a fan of the type of heat we had this week — although it wasn’t TOO humid, so there’s that. And yes, family obligations continue to be stressful, but this phase of my life won’t last forever (even if it feels like it will).

Enjoy those trails! Shade is where it’s at right now!

It’s so cool that you have such beautiful trails near you. Enjoy that shade.

Work/life balance is tough, and I struggle with it as well. Sometimes I read about all the workouts others get to do and just wish I had the time for more cross training. I try to focus on the moments that I do have and enjoy every run.

I know that feeling: spending hours in front of the screen while life (and summer) is happening outside and slipping away.
I hope things will calm down soon, Marcia. On the bright side, it’s very hot now anyway – so maybe you’re better off with having more time in a few weeks when it’s a little cooler.

Ugh, sorry for the nasty workload. I know what you mean about summer starting to slip away…how did we (already!) get to the last full week of July? Thankfully, I haven’t noticed much of a change with the daylight yet. I hope things settle down for you.

It has been brutally hot this week everywhere! Thanks for the Runfessions reminder I almost forgot but of course I will be there

Too hot for much here, too, and not even any thunderstorms to take the heat down, so I feel for you (I also had to work a day in my week off to make next week less challenging!).

Sorry that things are so hectic 🙁 I hope that things slow down a bit so you can take advantage of some summer outings soon.

Lou! You’re doing a 4 mile walk everday PLUS something else. That’s a lot in my world. There are days that work is so intense I don’t move from my desk from sunup to sundown – it makes me manic. But things are shifting drastically in the opposite end, so that’s another whole different stress.

Hey, let’s chat this week if you have a few minutes on Amelia Island and if that’s still a thing or no. I’m so incredibly burned out from life that I’m good either way ;). I’m almost sure Tara never registered. But I do want to see you. Give me a text shout when you can!

Work sucked the life out of me last week, and the heat sucked the rest out this weekend. At least I caught a few breaks with early morning runs.

Glad you are still enjoying the shoes! How much longer will Thing 1 be out there? I hope she’s had a great experience.

Well, it sounds like you kept pretty active in spite of your workload- and you did speed work AND a heavy lifting session… so you’re definitely keeping fit. It’s too bad you aren’t having a more relaxed summer though. For me, my schedule at work stays the same but my life is easier since I don’t have to deal with the school schedule. That will all come to a screeching halt in a couple weeks though- school starts on August 10th (eek!). At least you have your Alphaflys to console you!

I’m definitely trying to make the most of summer! It’s so short. I hope you can balance things out with your work!

I made a list of things to do with my daughter, who is a rising senior in high school, so that we don’t let summer slip completely away with no fun things to show for it. We’re doing a half-decent job but would like to do better. We do still have about another month left before she starts school again so I hope August is a great one! Yay for trails, too!

It’s been an odd summer. Last year, I diid so much more adventuring, butt this year, I’m alone more. It’s fine, but I just wasn’t used to it or ready for it.htt

It’s been so hot lately. Lucky the trails are there for you.

Today it finally cooled down and I don’t have time to run. Sigh

This week I noticed it was dark when I woke up at 5:30am. Waaaa! I do tend to force my family to join me in a lot of activities during the summer, but I always want more! (and by “force”, I think they really do willingly want to join me… haha)
