All Roads Lead to Thanksgiving

November 24, 2024

Thanksgiving week is here and so is my gang. Thing 1 flew in from Atlanta on Wednesday and Thing 2 arrived amidst the first snow of the season on Thursday. As you can imagine, this Mama Bear could not be happier to have a full house. I’ve been trying to get as much Thanksgiving prep done (menu planning, grocery shopping) as possible despite a ridiculous work schedule.

Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Strength Training
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles, visited my mom
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, long work day
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Strength Training + Bike Hills and Sprints pickup T1 from ORD
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, rest, pickup T2 from ORD
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Strength Training

All Roads Lead to Thanksgiving

Running, well fitness in general, remains on the back burner as I contend with a chaotic work schedule. I’ve made some decisions that will change things for the better on that front in 2025. Things feel a little, (okay a lot) wobbly at the moment, but big changes are rarely ever comfortable.

Today we are making our annual visit to Soldier Field for a Chicago Bears game. I runfess I much prefer college football at this point, especially my two favorite teams. Go Jackets! Go Hokies!

I told you in a previous post that my strength cycle sort of fizzled so I picked up where I left off for a do-over of sorts. It’s all about consistency, right? Easier said than done sometimes.

Enjoy the family! So nice to have everyone together.
All the best with the work changes – I’m sure you made the right decision, although it must have felt scary. Yay to 2025!

I feel you and love that everyone is home and together. Those are the times that I am the happiest as well. Life comes in cycles and so does fitness. You will find your rhythm again!

Hooray!!! That first Thanksgiving when they come home from college is the best.
Have a great time at the game!!!! I’ll be watching the Dolphins game but rooting for the Bears at the same time.
Yes- consistency is key. So why is it so hard to achieve??? I feel like I keep getting knocked back over and over again. Well, we have to keep getting back up, right! I think you had a solid week of workouts.

Enjoy the time with your girls — definitely a priority there’s no arguing with.

I hope you enjoy the game today — and stay warm!

My boys were at the Bears game last weekend! That Hail Mary at the end sure sucked the life out of the crowd. I hope your game is less eventful–and that they get a win!

Enjoy your family this weekend! I am anxious to hear about those changes with the job. It’s all about that work-life balance!

I can TOTALLY relate to fitness time being compromised due to work. This new job is kicking my fitness buttocks (10-ish hour days, including commute time), but I’m working on fine-thing my workout schedule(s) to get as much in as possible. Hoping for a great week for you and your family 😉

Oh I’ve been there with the work woes. I’m in a better place now but can tell you that it’s so hard to keep up workouts when every other part of your life is out of whack! Enjoy your Thanksgiving with your family!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week! Sounds like a very busy time of life for you – good job on keeping up (or getting back at!) your workouts. Enjoy your family time!

Work sounds stressful, but that you’ve got good things to look forward to and I hope all goes as planned.

Enjoy your time with your daughters visiting! Happy Thanksgiving!

Enjoy your family time. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Without the gym in the mornings, I need to get on the stationary bike or go out for a walk… Instead I spend more time on my phone… grrrrr

Yes I’m running a 10k on Thursday…it should be fun.

Going to my mIL for Thanksgiving so it will be low key.

I hope you have the most wonderful time!

We will have a small family Thanksgiving with my parents and A’s girlfriend. It will be nice.

Yes, to a Turkey Trot. I’m also hoping to get in some gym time. We will see how it goes.

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
