Year of the Snake Runfessions

January 30, 2025

Yes, it’s that time once again. It’s a brand new year and what better time to enter the Runfessional. It’s the Lunar New Year too, so let’s celebrate with some Year of the Snake Runfessions.

Year of the Snake Runfessions

You know by now I’m all about decluttering. It’s an ongoing mission around here and I never seem to get to the bottom of the piles of stuff I don’t need.

I runfess I thought I had the pain cave in a clutter-free state until I found these. Yes you’re seeing correctly. Workout DVDs and VHS tapes. Seriously what the heck? How am I just noticing these now? Should these go in some sort of time capsule from…I don’t know…2010?

You’ve likely seen me wearing these shoes by now. They’re the Triple Max Ion from Kuru, specially designed for running, workouts and general fitness. I’ve been testing them for several weeks now and oh boy do I love them! They feel like a big hug for my feet because the cushioning is oh so nice and the arch support is glorious. I love them for walks, hikes, the gym, and especially for days I need to be on my feet for hours on end. My feet and my entire skeleton feel less compressed and more refreshed when I wear them, if that makes any sense.

What’s the runfession? I runfess they are not my favorite for running. There I said it. The Triple Max Ion shoes are heavier than I’m used to and most of the delicious cushioning is found around the heel. This would be amazing if I were a heel striker, alas I am a mid-foot striker. Still though, I adore these shoes for everything else. They’re seriously amazing.

It’s been cold in these parts. How cold? Cold enough that I runfess I borrowed some of the base layers I typically wear for winter running outdoors to wear inside. I runfess my favorite is the Rest Less Pullover from lululemon. It comes in a bunch of colors. Don’t even ask how many I have because I won’t tell you.

The one thing I did bake over the holidays.

Over the holidays I thought I’d do all kinds of seasonal baking while my kids were here. I joined a holiday baking Facebook group, collected all kinds of recipes and purchased an inordinate amount of ingredients and morsels of every variety. I runfess that, other than the infamous Oreo Cheesecake, I did zero holiday baking and said morsels now reside within the confines of my freezer. I runfess I’m kind of happy about this because no doubt I’d have eaten all of it too.

Okay your turn! What have you to runfess? What’s your go-to base layer? Did you do holiday baking?

I bakefess I did do some holiday baking. Even after giving copious amounts to neighbors, friends, and family, I still had plenty for myself. I think I finally polished off final last sweet morsel a few weeks ago. I also have worn a few running tops as base layers under “civilian” clothes.

I runfess that I am over that bitter cold we had for most of January. Last weekend’s run in Wisco almost broke me. I truly wanted to cry but I thought my tears would freeze. And Mr Sun, who was shining brightly, brought me no relief. Ok, whine over! Now I’m trying to decide if I want to run in the rain. It’s been A MONTH. And it’s not just the weather lol

Well, I runfess that I lounge around the house in fresh running shorts paired with cotton t-shirts. Incredibly comfy, yet undeniably unstylish.

YAY for the ongoing decluttering mission! I can’t believe those DVDs and VHS tapes managed to evade your laser-sharp decluttering skills for so long, Marcia. Sneaky little things! 🤣

When I first got the neuroma I trued Kurus. I agree ok for walking but too stiff and heavy for running.

I did zero baking now that the kids are grown.

I recently found cassettes. I don’t have a cassette player. lol

Similar to Darlene, I have workout DVDs in my basement gym, but no DVD player. Can you even donate them anymore?

I have some Allbirds running shoes I love for walking and have never run in —maybe I should try the Kuru next.

Oh yes I did holiday baking! Lots of cookies, and I didn’t eat ANY of them (I’m an abstainer, not a moderator.) My family was very happy though.
I’m intrigued by those shoes. I’m actually looking for some good “walking around” shoes, that aren’t in garish colors so I can wear them to work. I may check these out!

Ha love the VHS tapes! I don’t think I have any around but you never know what’s in some of these drawers. I also love the Kuru shoes but find myself using them more for non running as well. Very well made shoes and comfy!

I will have to check out Kuru – I love my ON shoes for all things non-running but am always on the lookout for a good shoe!

That’s quite a collection of workout tapes lol! I’m sure my collection was just as bad – they went out with the “great purge” before our renovation.

I have a bunch of “running” versions of shoes that I love for walking and travel including NOBULL and Allbirds.

I did very little baking and very little eating of holiday treats this winter and that works for me!

I know I’m in the minority but I love winter running!

I wouldn’t even know how to play a VHS anymore! We still have tons of old DVDs, but again… what to do with them?

I did a little baking. Not a ton, but it was enough.

And I have a few thin shirts that I wear over my tank tops and under a heavier layer. Generally, most runs end in a tank top no matter how cold it is so that’s my actual base layer.

I wanted to love that base layer, but I can’t with the ribbed sleeves. The colors are so good though
If I had it together I’d be runfessing shoes too.

I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
