Halloween Eve Runfessions

October 29, 2026 Leave a Comment

Halloween weekend upon us! Since the weather has been SO nice this month, it hardly feels like November is just a couple of days away. How?! Like it or not, it is time to say farewell to one helluva beautiful October. Before we do that though, we must open up the Runfessional for some Halloween Eve Runfessions.

Halloween Eve Runfessions

I already mentioned how gorgeous the weather has been here lately, and for that I need to give Mom Nature her props. I runfess, I hope we don’t pay for it later.

Because it’s been so beautiful, I’ve spent ample time out on the trails either walking or doing my trusty run/walk intervals. I runfess the bionic hip has been great lately. Dare I press my luck?

I watched the TV coverage of the Chicago Marathon and I runfess I was pleased to see heat safety measures in place. They gave the event a yellow flag before it even started. As the day wore on the flag color turned to red. While the elites passed through mile 20 I noticed they were spraying water across the racecourse for cooling purposes. I runfess I felt a little jelly about that. Back in 2007, we had no flag system and certainly no water sprayers to cool us off. We just death marched on. I will say though, that race directors everywhere learned a lot that day and we are all better off for it.

I also runfess that I was pleased (and a bit jelly again) to see they turned that first tunnel of the Chicago Marathon into a veritable disco dance party, complete with laser lights and a DJ. Back in the day, it was dark and smelled of restaurant fryer exhaust. It was also the perfect place for guys to peel off and. . .relieve themselves. Gross.

And finally I runfess I got the nastiest spider bite. At least that’s what I think it was. It swelled up and looked like a water-filled blister on my forearm near my inner elbow and it itched unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It was beyond gross and it lasted for more than a week before it subsided. While I cannot be certain it was a spider bite for sure (Dr. Google and Chatgpt said it was) I did come across the above spider in the house the next day. Can you say eeeek?

Okay your turn: What have you to runfess? Ever run a hot race? Ever get a spider bite?
What’s your fave Halloween candy?

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
